Have you or anyone you know, ever come close to/missed out on life changing money? (Lottery or otherwise).

When I first learn about Bitcoin… they were trading for $10 a coin.

My buddy tried to get me to buy some and I told him he was crazy to think that a made up form of currency would amount to anything.

Fast forward to 2023. Im still renting and he has a lambo.

Im sure it’s plenty of folks with similar stories.

This was EXACTLY what happened to me, except two factors make my situation worse.

A) I was put on in 2010. It was worth a fraction of a penny at the time. The market was so shady there was no "stock" to trade like how these apps have now, you literally had to just keep up with a string of characters that was supposed to be worth a damn :dahell: Being a 19 year old in 2010, I couldn't quite imagine how people would buy fake/virtual currency with real-world currency and it actually be a wise thing to do. To make matters worse, I'm from Chicago and somebody I thought was my dog set me up in a check cashing scam so I was really skeptical. If I never had gotten scammed I probably would have invested at least $50 in it (which, if you crunch the numbers, would equate to over tens of millions of dollars today)

B) had my boy been smart, he would have taken off and we would've been both straight. This wasn't just any friend, this been my ace since 8 years old. Even at 19, I'd already known him over half my life at that point. But he decided to cash out after he made a couple thousand off a $20 investment. He thought he came up like a mf and was talking cash shyt about it..

Around 2018 someone I know inherited a house and $. He offered to sell it to me for 30k. My priorities were out of wack. I didn't see it as an investment. This year that house sold for $230k as it stood when offered to me.

Mayne look…true story, hand-on-The Bible, Yos:

I have a close relative who historically doesn’t take anything very seriously.
When he was learning how to drive (circa 2000), he mentioned how maybe cars
should have brake lights on the front also. We asked why, he said “the same reason
they’re on the back - so people in front of you can see if you tried to stop from hitting them…”

After thinking about it some more, it wasn’t a terrible idea. We told him maybe he should
get a patent for that or something. Sometime after that, he had gotten the paperwork to fill
out for the patent just on a whim. One day, like months after - he gets a call at home from somebody that wants
to talk to him about the patent. He wasn’t home - this was before everybody had cellphones.
So they took a message for him, but I guess he never called them back.

To be fair, he was still a teenager at this time so he probably didn’t think it was legit. But again, he was the type that
never took anything that seriously. And this was a time in his life when chit was getting real serious.
He was borderline flunking out of school because he used to cut all the time, had gotten a couple
pregnancy scares, and was starting to get into some street beef. So anything outside of all that wasn’t a priority.

Fast Forward to about 2012 and that’s when I am out one day and see a Ford Taurus with some brake lights
on the front and my eyes light up. I call my rells and ask him did he ever get back with them peoples about he patent
land he said no. I said “NICCA YOU FUCCED OFF PHAT FETTI, FORD GOT YOUR CHIT OUTCHEA!!”

Found out about Bitcoin when it was $5 a coin but couldn’t understand what it was and how to buy it. It was off lurking on a messageboard actually.

In the 90s some yogurt company had a promotion for like 25k if you brought a lucky cup of yogurt. I was probably like 9 and I used to just touch stuff in the supermarket and I open the lid of a yogurt and it said you won 25k but my dumb ass thought I would get in trouble for opening a yogurt so I left it.

At my ex's house with the kids watching a national lottery where you buy tickets that are connected to your zip code. My bm had tickets on the zip code of the house. We're sitting in the living room and the presenter starts naming the winning zip code. Mind you, we're broken up and our relationship is up and down. They announced the first two digits and it's her zip code, the next two are also her zip code and we're looking at each other :ohhh: The announcer gets to the two letters to complete the zip code and the first letter is her zip code...I look at her and think "This bytch is about to be a millionaire after we broke up a year prior and this is my old house but I moved out". It's just one letter removed from winning 7 million euros. The announcer gives the last letter and it's the wrong one...while he says the least letter(it was summer) I hear the neighbors from across the street scream "Yeaaaaaahhhhh, motherfukker ...I'm rich!!!!!!....etc..." They hit. My girl won 3500 but down the block three families became millionaires. All of them sold or rented out their houses and got the fukk out ...i went home that day and had a migraine:snoop:

It doesn’t have to necessarily be the lottery. It could’ve been someone who fumbled the bag through their own lack of discernment.

My cousin used to be in a lottery pool years ago. They’d play a combination of quick picks and their own numbers they’d always stick to.

Well the guy who would buy the tickets from the store would buy powerball tickets on Tuesday for Wednesday’s draw and tickets on Friday for Saturday’s draw.

Well, Saturday’s draw comes. ALL the numbers that they chose as a pool comes up. Everyone is losing their mind, calling each other up. People are drafting their resignation letters. They all come into the office Monday morning to look at their tickets.

All the numbers match, but the ticket was mistakenly bought for Wednesday’s draw instead of Saturday’s. :francis:

How much would you define as life changing?
