i was watching this foreign film last night at this center a couple of blocks away from my house last night. it's a french film called "polisse" and it's based off of real accounts from a child protection unit in the paris police department. there was this one scene where this african woman came in the station with her young son (i think he was six or seven) and was asking the officers to basically take her son because she didn't want him living in the street with her and living that lifestyle. but the officers tried to find them both a shelter in order to keep them together (it was apparent that the child didn't want to leave his mother).
so, in the end they could only find a shelter that would take care of the boy and a one of the officers couldn't stand the fact that they were going to separate the boy and his mother, so he started tripping a little bit and taking it personal. he asked his boss if they could stay with him for a few days, then he went to the chief and started fighting with him because all the chief had to do was make a call to one of the shelters and they would have gotten in. but he didn't. anyhow, watching all this just made the final scene worse; they had to pull the son off the mother and she just scurried out of the police station after they told her they could only find a place for her son and not her. but the son was balling and crying out of control. that almost made me cried...
