Ice Cube is racist against whites I know. He didn't hide it though or pretend he loved whites like Eminem did/does with blacks.

There's gotta be some middle ground. I don't know him personally but I don't think eminem just pretended to love black people and mourn for his best friend just for show. The truth of the matter is black and white folks are conditioned in this country to perpetuate racism among other toxic things that separate people to play to the strengths of the control structure. Neither you, I or him are exceptions to this. To think all of that disappeared just because he got into hip hop would be asinine. There are always going to be conflicts with what you are taught and what you discover.

Hip hop has done wonders to condition people more toward unity but the subconscious processes and negative associations of self and others in the context of race persist and will need much more time than 30-40 some odd years to be phased out to the point where it's not a factor, if that's even possible.

You consider that and the fact that a black kid beat him to the point of him having brain damage to where he's having to rehab to learn how to to simple shyt all over again...it's bound to be some confusion there. Not that anybody who was/is still offended by the "tapes" owe him any extra empathy, but it's never as "black and white" as it seems when you start looking at the individual rather than the institutions.

This is important though in the sense that people think that racism/prejudice or even being abusive is somehow reserved for people who are overtly full of hate or negativity. You don't have to be a bad person to be capable of some bad shyt.

This subject got beat to death over on AHH.

I'm generally in the camp of giving Em a pass because of how young he was when it he recorded this. He's still on probation as far as I'm concerned and it definitely effected my view of him.

On the other hand, almost anyone is capable of saying some foul racist shyt and I can promise you that the White execs who own rap and radio say worse on a regular basis and some it gets said directly to the rappers who bow down to them in their verses and albums credits. I always assume that every White person has said some bigoted or ignorant shyt at some point; saves me the trouble of getting offended later.

If Eminem had the power he has now, when he made that song, it'd be completely different.
