technically Caribbean is southern too if you're just basing if off of relative location. But i was being specific to cuisine. You don't often find grits at a BBQ place, or Pulled pork at a Cajun place etc. In my experience a chicken n Waffles place, a BBQ place, and a Cajun place are three different kinds of cuisine. I usually just refer to the chicken spots as traditional southern food or soul food.

this is more based on the menu of the owner than sub groupings of food

I didn't see your edit, you just said southern at first not sourthern USA. and i wasn't speaking specific to the USA in any case. I was just talking in terms of popular food cuisines made by black people that people here like to eat.

"Traditional" maybe in a simplified comidified marketable type of sense to...although it has continuity , black food varies from texas, Louisiana, Mississippi delta, south Florida, etc...we have more variance throughout these parts than just accents.

Lets not let these advertising terms and market magnets minimize our culinary history

All i was trying to do was point out that black food is still very popular despite the fact that soul food restaurants aren't as abundant. :snoop:

The Souf
Chitlins are the only soul food I would not eat other than that me and my friends prefer soul food over most other cultures. Maybe it’s a regional thing because most southern people my age absolutely still eat soul food. Everytime I find out about a lil hole in the wall spot I always try it out but I just mostly eat it homemade
