Sean Maguire made a big mistake and paid for it, tossing an interception that went for a touchdown on his second pass Saturday.
Maguire's day featured some good and some bad as he completed 22 of 44 passes for 289 yards and two interceptions for the Garnet, leading the first-team offense.
While he did not throw a touchdown pass, Maguire led the Garnet on three scoring drives (of 10, 6 and 11 plays) in the first half as he worked against the first-team defense. Two drives ended in Dalvin Cook TD runs.
Maguire made a poor read on the Garnet's first drive, throwing over the middle. Freshman safety Derwin James jumped in front of the pass and weaved 41 yards for a touchdown. He also had a fourth-quarter interception as part of a lackluster second half for the Garnet offense.
JJ Cosentino completed 7 of 11 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown for the Gold, which was the second-team offense. Despite wearing a bulky brace on his left knee, Cosentino showed good mobility and touch on his passes.
Johnson was 8 of 11 for 155 yards along with touchdown passes to Ermon Lane and Mavin Saunders.
John Franklin did not play on Saturday due to a shoulder injury.
Fisher spent much of the afternoon about 10-15 yards behind the quarterbacks, evaluating both the Garnet and Gold teams.
