Don't pay them Jimbo depth chart much mind. If this was the actual lineup he put out this team goes 8-4 at best come week 1 we will be cool. We young but we got some studs really wish Derwin can start from day 1 im hype as fukk to see this kid in action in a real game.

I wonder if Jimbo has it in him to start Trey over Tyler when the season begins. My gut feeling is that any combination of Jalen, Derwin, and Trey gives us our best defensive backfield. Also, Featherson doesn't seem like he's gonna gain weight as easily as expected....one of those hard gainers. Excited to see if his eye discipline has gotten better. He really jumped off the screen last year.

I would think Brutus or Nate would come out before Tyler, even tho they're not the same position.

I wouldn't take the depth chart too seriously. HOWEVER, I will say that Casher and Shanks being buried on the depth chart speaks volumes. BUSTS! On the good side it looks like Keith Bryant is finally stepping up.

Jalen Ramsey: The Confident One
(Photo: Chris Nee, 247Sports)
It shows on the field – junior defensive back Jalen Ramsey is as confident as they come.

Off the field – the light is a bit brighter on just how good Ramsey believes he is. He was asked during a media session on Monday at the ACC Kickoff if he was the best player in college football and answered without hesitating.

“Without a doubt,” Ramsey said.

“Most definitely. Every elite player who has the confidence is going to say that, but I feel like I truly am,” Ramsey added. “I feel like I have the résumé for it. I feel like no one has the résumé I have since I’ve been in college.”

Ramsey isn’t just talking about his success on the gridiron either.

“I feel like no one can literally compare to what I’ve done in college; on the football field, track,” Ramsey said. “Just all around, I’m the best athlete in college football.”

Ramsey’s confidence isn’t a new occurrence. Upon his arrival in 2013, Ramsey wasn’t out to make friends, but instead earn a starting job. He did so and has started every game of his career while winning a pair of conference championships and a National Championship.

He has also played multiple roles on the field and shown versatility in handling every responsibility imaginable for a defensive back.

All during his college football journey, he has done it with near flawless execution.

Why has he found such great success? A great deal of it has to do with how he was prepared to compete at the collegiate level and beyond. Much of that can be traced back to his family, which includes a brother and cousin that are athletes, as well as his father, a personal trainer whom Ramsey calls his harshest critic outside of himself.

"Definitely, I have always been the best," Ramsey said. "That is just how I am, how I am molded. I don't take second to anybody.

“It’s a Ramsey thing, it’s how my family is.” Ramsey added. “When I was a freshman and thrown into the fire, it helps me pick up my game. I had to learn quicker [playing with older guys growing up], I have to step into a role quicker.”

In the same breath of calling his father his harshest critic, Ramsey also stated that both he and his mother are his biggest supporters.
That support also plays into his makeup and determination to be the best player on the field.

“I am going to do everything I have to do not to disappoint myself, my teammates, my family," Ramsey said.

Beyond football, Ramsey excels in the long jump. He has won multiple ACC championships in the event. He was asked on Monday if he believes he could be an Olympian if he concentrated on just track and field. He was quick to state that he felt he could be an Olympian, while doing both track and field as well as football.

That confidence has also brought some criticism to Ramsey. He missed out on the ACC Male Athlete of the Year Award this offseason. Ramsey wasn’t shy about disagreeing with the decision after turning in an exceptional sophomore year at Florida State in multiple sports.

"I feel like when guys are the best at something, they deserve something, they've earned something, they should get it," Ramsey said on Monday. "When that doesn't happen, yeah, that'll make you upset. That'll make you mad, and it did. The award was ACC best male athlete of the year, and really, there's no comparison."

Ramsey’s bravado isn’t an act. He is a determined athlete who wants to excel in every facet of his life. It shines through. With this coming season likely his last in Garnet and Gold, his goals are simple – to continue to prove he is the best.

As for where his legacy will stand with FSU defensive backs. That is one topic he isn’t quick to attack.

"That is not really for me to say," Ramsey said. "It will come with time. All I can do is control what I can control while I am at Florida State.

“Do the best I can do."

Shavar's top 3 stung a lil bit. I was hearing rumblings things were looking shaky when he opted not to come to either of the camp sessions, but all the insiders kept downplaying it. I know its July recruiting news and we have a lot of time left in this cycle, but if we whiff on Shavar, what's Plan B?

Shavar's top 3 stung a lil bit. I was hearing rumblings things were looking shaky when he opted not to come to either of the camp sessions, but all the insiders kept downplaying it. I know its July recruiting news and we have a lot of time left in this cycle, but if we whiff on Shavar, what's Plan B?
Here’s the latest Recruiting Scoop:

— We’ve been monitoring the Amir Rasul since Wednesday. Noles247 was informed a flip was imminent and would likely happen in the coming day or so.

Although it still hasn’t fully materialized, here’s what we know: According to a source, Rasul decommitted from Miami on Thursday night during a phone call to Al Golden. He committed to the FSU staff the same night, but needed to speak to Jimbo Fisher. As of Saturday night he had not spoken to Fisher yet. We expect that to happen, but until then we’ll hold off on officially reporting his commitment.

— I don’t expect Phenix City (AL) athlete Jamal Couchto end up in FSU’s 2016 class. FSU values his athleticism and versatility. A source told me over the weekend, “there aren’t many recruits his size that can do the things he can athletically”. Couch is 6-5 and 217. He’s viewed as a standup rush-end by FSU, or possibly a tight end. Auburn is where I expect him to end up. Auburn hasn’t offered yet, but I’m told they likely will at some point. FSU’s going to try to hold on to him in the meantime.

— After his three day visit to Tallahassee in June, it looked like FSU was closing in on a commitment from four-star cornerback Nigel Knott. He ended up backing off of his scheduled announcement at The Opening and slowing his recruitment down. A source tells Noles247 that Knott has been in consistent contact with FSU, even as recent as this weekend. FSU feels good about where they stand and view Alabama as their biggest threat to land Knott.

— A source tells me Florida State has had some recent contact with five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown. I don’t think it’s anything to be excited about just yet. Even though there have been a few conversations with Brown and his mother, a visit this summer still seems unlikely.

I look at this as one of those situations where FSU is going to stay on him, hope to get hm to a game during the fall and then push for an official visit. It’s a long shot, but if they stay on him, get him in on that official visit after the season ends, then there’s a possibility they could slide into the mix. That’s a lot of “if’s”. But it’s noteworthy that there has been some recent contact.

— Four-star linebacker Keion Joyner continues to look like it will come down to LSU and FSU. Visits have been limited for him this summer. Likely going to come down to how officials go. He remains in regular contact with area recruiter Brad Lawing for FSU.

— FSU is very confident, that as of today, four-star linebacker commitment Josh Brown will remain part of the class. His most recent visit went very well and oddly, his multitude of visits elsewhere, has strengthened his pledge as it always circles back to FSU being the place for him.

— One person working very hard in FSU's efforts to land four-star offensive tackle Landon dikkerson is current offensive tackle pledge Josh Ball. Ball was in his ear during his recent visit. Expect those two to remain in contact as dikkerson takes his time in deciding.

— I checked in on the status of 6-5, 315-pound 2016 defensive tackle Zuriel Davis out of Andrew Jackson high school in Jacksonville. Grades are still the concern. FSU will monitor his grades during the fall, if it looks like he’ll qualify, then I think there’s a good chance FSU will offer.

— After another summer visit to LSU, the Tigers are trending positively for four-star cornerback Trayvon Mullen. However, sources close to FSU and UF feel good about their chances to keep him instate. I think UF is going to become more of a player for Mullen as the season goes on. Especially if they are able to land his teammate, four-star wideout Binjimnen Victor. Mullen last visited FSU in June, but the ‘Noles should get him on campus again before the season begins.

— The mystery recruitment of five-star defensive tackleDexter Lawrence continues. He was expected to attend LSU’s camp on Friday or Saturday, but the North Carolina standout did not make the trip. Lawrence has only visited Alabama and UNC this summer. Yet, my sources tell me FSU is not ready to throw in the towel. The staff feels this will be a marathon recruitment and are optimistic they’ll get him on campus, but a summer visit seems unlikely at this point.

— Five-star defensive lineman Shavar Manuel surprised the recruiting world on Friday night by announcing a top three of LSU, Florida and Auburn.

I spoke to several sources and I’ve learned that Manuel and UF have been speaking frequently throughout the summer. UF’s location (to family) and the ability to play early appeal to him. Auburn is a legit threat to land him as well. Will Muschamp has a strong relationship with Manuel from his time at Florida. Manuel is also close to freshman defensive end Byron Cowart.

I’m told Florida State is still in the mix. Manuel likes defensive end coach Brad Lawing. He also recognizes FSU’s ability to develop NFL caliber defensive linemen.

After speaking to several sources, I feel UF and Auburn are in the best position to land Manuel. Nobody knows when he’ll make a final decision. The sooner he commits, the better it is for Florida. FSU should hope he doesn’t make a decision prior to the season.

— Friday’s visit with four-star defensive endAntonneous Clayton went very well. Clayton brought his entire family and high school coach with him. He was expecting to leave campus around 3 p.m. to head to Gainesville for FNL. He ended up staying in Tallahassee until nearly 7 p.m. All accounts have FSU and Auburn battling it out right now. After speaking to Clayton and his coach, I do not expect a final decision until after his senior year. He should be back on FSU’s campus for the Miami game and again after the season for an official visit.

— I was told from a good source over the weekend that Florida State is looking to sign one more defensive tackle in this class to go along with current commitment Cedric Wood. We’ve felt FSU would try to add two more, but I’m told that is not the case.

— FSU could be in the market for a JUCO linebacker. I wouldn’t expect for any offers to go out until later in September or October.

— I’ll run through some upcoming visit news:

** I’m expecting Meridian (MS) four-star defensive tackle Raekwon Davis to visit FSU on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. We’re still working on confirming with Davis and when we do we’ll report the visit on the front page of the site. We have word from a good source that he’ll be in early in the week. Davis is a long shot at this point, but visits like this during the summer can turn long shots into realistic options. Davis is 6-7, 315-pounds.

** Chis Nee was able to confirm with Lake Worth (FL) Santaluces four-star linebacker Zach McCloud, that he’ll be in Tallahassee on Tuesday to visit Florida State. McCloud is currently committed to Miami and has an offer from the ‘Noles.

** We expect five-star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myersand likely his brother, Jayvaughn Myers to visit FSU at the end of the week. Nothing is ever set in stone with Craig-Myers, when it comes to visits, for now we’ll say that we “expect” him in at the end of the week or weekend.

** According to a source, four-star cornerback Trayvon Mullen is expected to visit this week. It’ll likely come toward the middle or end of the week. I’m told Mullen will visit UF and FSU on this trip.
