He's not, Jay had a lot of skill, even though he wasn't as nice as Big.

Jay showcased his talent on one album and that was his debut, everything else was dumbed down substanceless commercalized garbage

tho i'll gve Vol 1 a pass

man, lemme tell you when black on both sides first got released i could not stop listenin' that album

i'd already knew of mos def from de la soul's stakes is high album ("big brother beat" track) and had the blackstar album but man, black on both sides on another level imo

it was like the best thing i'd heard probably since biggie because i can remember at that time not really feelin' a lot of the shyt that was comin' out but mos stuck out like a sore thumb among so much "rap and bullshyt" to quote gza; at that time

as for mathematics, yeah that verse is excellent. i even made a thread on it a while back, check it out :myman:

yea black on both sides is my top 10 albums ever. prolly even top 5. just an all time classic to me. at that point nobody could tell me mos wasn't gonna be the goat. he was destroying EVERYTHING. even on a track like respiration....going up against talib and common in their primes. talib and common spit two remarkable verses.....and mos still ate em up. he was just untouchable at that time. he was jordan level from 97-99.

you know what, i didn't think this would be such an easy answer to answer but i think you came (pause) with the correct answer

mos durin' that time was incredible and i still think he's great when he's focused (example bein' the ecstatic album) but back durin' like 96' to 99' he was on another level

tracks like respiration as you'd already stated had excellent verses by both kweli and common but mos definitely outshined those guys

remember these tracks from the first soundbombing album? :mjcry:
