Has anyone driven, or shipped their car, coast to coast?

Shipped my car from DC to to Cali for about $1.2K about two years ago. Car came in a week and they delivered it right to my front door. Once it arrived I just signed for it and checked for any cosmetic damages (none).

It was a very easy process.
Nice, who did you use for shipping? I'm trying to get a car and boat shipped from Colorado to Indiana, and cheapest I've seen is $3k plus....

And if so, what was your experience like?

I'm weighing the cost/benefit of driving or shipping my car, versus flying from Raleigh to Sacramento this summer, as opposed to flying. I'll be staying in Sacramento for the summer, is the plan, which in part hinges on the results of these impending custody cases here in NC...

So because I'd be there 2-3 months, rather than just my normal ~5 days or so, I'm debating driving. Shipping is an enticing option, because I don't really feel like driving 40 hours across 4 days or so; if I drive I'd only do like 10 hours/day. I'm not doing The Race 🤣...

The other option is that I can fly out there and just buy a car when I get there. I'm hesitant on this simply because cars are more expensive in California than they are here. If I buy one it would just be a beater, ain't trying to get nothing crazy, bit I don't know if I want the expense of another car, is the hesitation...

Anyone with experience driving or shipping, let me know how it went for you guys, or if you think I should take option 3!

Shipped from Fayetteville to San Diego for 1200, no issues. Did the pickup from my job parking lot, right to my mother in laws driveway in Cali

SMF and LAX to VA and NC
Shipped from overseas

Just be careful with the insurance part. I had 2 problems I had to solve…

Mainly, it had to do with the garbage ass shipping company. If you live in an apartment/condo or anywhere where a truck can’t get in, they will want you to come meet somewhere to pick it up. They don’t tell you that shyt though. So I had to uber out to some random ass walmart to get it.

Then inspect your car FULLY… I would even say take it to a shop and get it looked at. They will want you to sign paperwork that says everything with the car is fine, but I had an experience where the car frame got damaged and you couldn’t even see it. I paid for the insurance and they didn’t want to fork over the payment of it because I “signed the paperwork”.

I had my insurance look into it and after they dodged my case workers calls/emails, they went forward with a lawsuit
Appreciate this fellas, who did you all use for shipping?
I shipped my car from Chicago to Phoenix. My man must've been really hauling because it arrived way ahead of schedule. I basically got a rental car for nothing.

The whole process was really smooth overall. The only odd thing was that the dude parked the car carrier a couple miles away, drove my car to my apartment without asking, and then asked for a ride back to his truck. I didn't mind because my car wasnt worth much anyway, but someone with a nicer car may not have wanted a stranger driving their car.

In hindsight I kinda wish I drove though because I don't know when I'll get a chance to do a cross country roadtrip like that.

Download Uber Eats driver app and stop in each coty, don't leave until you make at least $100 in each city

Man driving across the country would probably be cool. I’ve always wanted to drive across the country just to say I’ve done it. Probably easier now with all the entertainment options at your disposal.

Couldn’t imagine making that drive with only Am/Fm tape deck radio like @maxamusa mentioned like back in the days

i used to drive from atlanta to arizona a few times.
i am currently on a road trip from atl to slc to az and back to atl.

it's cool if you have leisure time. i did this because i didn't really know what the timing of events was going to be like so i didn't want to book flights and ish like that.
but the thing is you have the risk of ish happening to your car. my windshields have gotten ding 3 times on the road.... now this time in the rover with a heated windshield. i have full coverage so i hope it's covered :francis:
so yeah check you insurance coverage and keep a decent distance on the road lol

See below.

One of my boys side business is shipping cars within the US and to Nigeria as well. So he just hooked me up. If you'd be interested you can DM me.

Did you keep track of the mileage before & after arrival
Yes I did. Same mileage as I left it.

Appreciate the responses!

What company did yall use? I'm doing my due diligence in research, but I have no idea who is reputable and who isn't. KI, how much did yours cost and what company?

We used Montway Auto Transport due to their enclosed transport options and our vehicles being more on the luxury side. From memory, I believe it was upwards of 9k due to distance and the enclosed option. JKMoving is also reliable if you're just shipping a single vehicle and don't mind the transport being open (exposed to the elements.)

Shippers will charge you out the ass… it’s cheaper to by a one way ticket, factor in gas and a hotel stay plus food and it still comes out cheaper than shipping your vehicle..

I copped a whip in AZ and drove that bytch back to NY.. No problem plus o wanted to make a road trip out of it anyway
