Lol are you serious? You sure we talking bout the same movie? The movie bout the mirror right?...I really wanna know what you think was better...

:ufdup:I'm asking you my man. You claim it's the best horror of the past five years; I'm asking you to back it up. It's a shame, because it has many elements that I appreciate in a horror film: non-linear storytelling; slow burn; gritty and atmospheric; rich but understated cinematography.

To answer your question, though: The Cabin in the Woods, Insidious 1 & 2, Sinister, Let Me In, The Lords of Salem, The Uninvited, Afflicted, The Last Exorcism, Kill List, Detention, Triangle, Grave Encounters, Apollo 18.. hell, even the past couple of Paranormal Activity flicks have been better.

If we include films since 2000? :whew: I could go on for hours...

Ok we can dismiss all the paranormal activity movies after the first one...oculus has suspense and great storyline...the way their past selves as kids blend in with their present selves in the story is genius...how the mirror can make them see what it want them to see again is genius...that scene when she was seeing her mom in the mirror and went to hug her while the mirror blinded her brother and he pushed the button to release the ax thinking he's gonna smash the mirror but in reality he killed his sister was crazy...and he got arrested taken away in a police car just like he did wen he was a small boy...c'mon you cnt tell me that's not genius writing...most of the scary movies you listed had scare...Dats all no story no suspense no crtitical thinking...just scare tactics...

:whoa: Why would we do that?

It had elements that I enjoy in a movie of any genre, especially horror. This one didn't do it for me :manny:. I'm interested in suggestions you may have for movies of this ilk, however (Netflix instant queue preferred). Always looking for a good new flick :smugbiden:

:wtf:Quite the opposite. Are there films on that list you haven't seen?

:salute:I got you... if you really do like the atmospheric mind-bending type with supernatural elements like Oculus then I strongly recommend Triangle and The Lords of Salem.

Deliver Us From Evil? I'm hearing bad things... how'd you two like it?

I would skip deliver us frm evil if anything better is out there...it's like you ain't seen the movie before but you've seen the movie before...it's the typical exorcism movie...it coulda been better but at the end it's just another scary movie...nothing that you haven't seen frm other scary movies...

it's directed by a talented director who happened to helm one of the strongest horror flicks in recent years :yeshrug: it should be seen
i wouldn't really call him talented, Sinister was a DECENT flick. The day the earth stood still remake was god awful, exorcism of emily rose was awful, he doesn't do ANYTHING original.

'Sinister' was nothing near a great horror movie, some good elements, as here, but nowhere near a good horror movie. Saw 'Deliver Us From Evil' yesterday, this is as good example as I can think of as why the horror genre has faltered so much in recent years, on paper and in some of it's execution it's a solid movie, but in it's entirety it is laden with overdone tropes and cliches, so familiar to the audience, we cannot take them seriously, and Eric Bana is chewing scenery a former A list actor hamming it up in a C list horror movie with a release date stronger then the flimsy content.

The excruciating cringeworthy dialogue between him and his partner, and him and his wife was unbearable. 'Even when you're here…..you're not here…' That is unbearable. And the cute daughter menaced by pure evil. The rockstar priest wearing leather jackets and swilling whiskey doing his best Oliver Martinez in 'Unfaithful' impression, some of the set up is cool enough, but I'm not sure exactly what two detectives are doing investigating 'strange noise' complaints in the slums. I am also unsure that if ones partner is savagely skewered during the course of an arrest, that one would be free for a lengthy confession with the unorthodox haunted priest in the hours following. Or that a mental institution even in the Bronx would allow unsupervised visits with unrestrained patents in a facility with apparently only one staff member.

It's become all too common in horror movies in all their forms to make it's audience much to familiar with it's antagonist, in the films latter half, which ruins any suspense and tension the movie had worked to establish. We don't need a fukking 15 minute exorcism scene, which erases all the tension, and brings the movie to a grinding halt. The demon/possessed guy was kinda cool, little creepy, until they brought him into the light. Also, the entire plot kind of shuffles and drags to a useless rescue climax, and a limp conclusion. Offensively underwhelming movie.

And honestly the black cops remarks are the end were insulting and offensive, just tacky as fukk. I was kind of surprised it was that bad jesus
