The KOTR does not have to be guaranteed a title shot. You can give that person #30 in the RR or an IC title shot or nothing at all other than the title.

If it ain't a belt, the fans don't care. The belt is the highest proclamation of "I'm the best", and fans know it. If you want to give someone a rub on the way up, give him a mid-card title, not a stupid gimmick tournament win that ultimately will rank last on the list of achievements when people look back at someone's career.

Bullshyt. The Andre battle royal don’t mean shyt because its some johhny come lately shyt. And the KOTR run can be memorable if done right. I remember Booker’s run more than I do any of this other single shyt besides maybe his 7 match series with Benoit. Everyone can’t have a belt, but just like in other sports you have Defensive player of the year, six man, rookie of the year, comebacker player, scoring champ, slam dunk champ, etc. etc. Wrestling can have other accolades than belts.

KOTR is probably the easiest way to make storylines. Just take 16 dudes, have them in a bracket (and actually show the viewers the bracket, not just randomly have guys fighting and call it a tournament), and boom, you have storylines that are easy to fall into. I'm probably giving current WWE too much credit though.

uh, you could say the same about any title. in fact, i'm pretty sure Russo said something similar about the title just being a prop. its all fake breh. it only means whatever meaning we attach to it. KOTR has a legacy that could be honored and make winning it a big deal.
KoTR could be for the title shot for Summerslam like when Brock won it.
