I guess I should get around to watching Straight Outta Compton. As someone who hasn't seen the film, it seems like people wanted it to be nominated because it was the only prominent black film they could remember coming out this year. I heard the dude that played Eazy-E was good though.
Well it wasn't the only prominent but it's racked up awards and nods and a nice little resume. So it seemed primed to get an oscar nod because it's got everything else along the way that you normally get to lead to the oscar nod. Creed is the more typical oscar flick tho
but like that article i posted pointed out, there's a good chance that a 60 year old white man wouldn't be interested in seeing straight outta compton. As much as we talk about race in the oscars, one of the biggest problems with them is the fact that there's no way to verify or guarantee that every voter sees every movie they're supposed to see. That's a huge fukkin problem, whether the movie starts a black person or an orange person. And that just bothers me as a movie fan more than anything else. But the racial issues with the academy are just a symptom of the disease that is a lack of progressiveness in executive boards and films that are greenlit.
