no, to provide a scholarship for people that want to study hip hop culture, did you not read the article? why isnt rap a place for harvard, who told you this?

Because studying hip hop culture at Harvard is hustling backwards financially, even for a scholarship provider.

An HBCU is a much more cost effective alternative. That program could be put to good use at Morgan State, Morehouse, etc as supplemental courses in a Black Studies curriculum.

going to harvard is not hustling backwards no matter which way you slice it

and i agree he or other rappers should do it at an HBCU too, what is stopping HBCU's from doing something similar, that is the real question

If any Rap Artist deserves this...its Nas
Does he get paid for this? If not he needs to.

Harvard allows for the study of Shakespeare whose claim to fame is being brilliant lyrically and chronicling the human experience through his art.

And people have the gall to say that the verse below, and the myriad others, are not art?

"I woke up early on my born day, I'm twenty years of blessing
The essence of adolescent leaves my body now I'm fresh in
My physical frame is celebrated cause I made it
One quarter through life some God-ly like thing created
Got rhymes 365 days annual plus some
Load up the mic and bust one, cuss while I puffs from
my skull cause it's pain in my brain vein money maintain
Don't go against the grain simple and plain
When I was young at this I used to do my thing hard
Robbin foreigners take they wallets they jewels and rip they green cards
Dipped to the projects flashin my quick cash
and got my first piece of ass smokin blunts with hash
Now it's all about cash in abundance, nikkaz I used to run with
is rich or doin years in the hundreds
I switched my motto -- instead of sayin fukk tomorrow
That buck that bought a bottle could've struck the lotto
Once I stood on the block, loose cracks produce stacks
I cooked up and cut small pieces to get my loot back
Time is Illmatic keep static like wool fabric
Pack a four-matic that crack your whole cabbage"

"I'm the young city bandit, hold myself down singlehanded
For murder raps, I kick my thoughts alone, get remanded
Born alone, die alone, no crew to keep my crown or throne
I'm deep by sound alone, caved inside in a thousand miles from home
I need a new nikka, for this black cloud to follow
Cause while it's over me it's too dark to see tomorrow
Trying to maintain, I flip, fill the clip to the tip
Picturin my peeps, now the income make my heartbeat skip
And I'm amped up, they locked the champ up, even my brain's in handcuffs
Headed for Indiana stabbin women like the Phantom
The crew is lampin big Willie style
Check the chip toothed smile, plus I profile wild
Stash through the flock wools, burnin dollars to light my stove
Walk the blocks wit a bop, checkin Danes plus the games
people play, bust the problems of the world today"

C'mon son :ahh:

The I in Team
I mean it's nas man, are you surprised? :blessed:

And to all the people that go back to the jay z vs nas thing I will say this: All the beef and other shyt was only because Jay wanted to be friends with nas. Imagine if you was a trumpet player and all you want is miles Davis to be cool with you and he ignores you? I'd be hella mad too. :troll:

What I got from this is that one day some dude wearing an urban skirt (or whatever they're wearing then) is gonna think he's more "hip-hop" than somebody else because he got his Ph.D in Hip-Hop from Harvard and the other dude didn't.

Aside from the fact that we have a major TRUE hip hop figure entering academia as a subject, I guess it is cool to see someone from our generation get props at the most prestigious University in the country. It could help spread an understanding of hip hop/black culture to those who didn't know or care before.

But damn...HBCUs and other state colleges could use some love too. :sadcam:

Harvard is about as expensive as it gets.
