The 2 are connected. There had always been revolts and rebellions in both colonies, but an enslaved African in Jamaica was shipped to Haiti(then St. Domingue) because he continued to plot rebellions.

Dutty Boukman set off the uprising that eventually became the Haitian Revolution.
