Only reason he got burn in the United States because the Italian government pressed the US after a group of like 10 Italians were lynched in New Orleans in the late 1890’s.
Columbus Day was declared a National holiday by the US President (Harrison I believe) a year after the lynchings.

Last week while I was buying some lunch I overheard a CAC in line a few spots ahead of me talking about something being closed on Monday, because of a holiday and he “mistakenly” yet somewhat casually referred to today, as being MLK day until his friend corrected him
