1. That was agreed upon in the contract.
2. This is the part you’re gonna hate: when you’re a good team, moves like this won’t be magnified. The Mets weren’t a good team and Bonilla was viewed as the face of The Worst Team Money Could Buy.
3. The Bonilla deferment is linked indirectly to the worst Ponzi scheme EVER. If the Mets had just paid him $5.9 mil in 2000, Bobby Bonilla day doesn’t exist. That’s why it’s viewed as a finesse compared to everyone else.

Bonilla also gets half a mil from the Orioles until 2029 and has been since ‘04. Bonilla is a financial legend.

what he said.

  1. They are all mutually agreed upon. What are you talking about?
  2. The Braves were not good during Bruce Sutter's years either. In fact his last year they lost 106 games. lol
  3. So doesn't that make the Brave deferment of his contract worse? They didn't even get caught in a ponzi scheme and deferred more $ and for more years. Plus after that they got to pay him $9.1 million lump sum. And he sucked when he was on the Braves.
This is just about Bonilla to continue the narrative the Mets are somehow worse than everyone else management wise when it definitely isn't the case.

1. Bobby Bonilla’s deal didn’t come with deferment options. Most of these other deals did. Chris David has deferrals, but nobody views his deferrals as embarrassing because the contract is awful enough. Griffey’s deal has deferrals, but that came as part of a bad deal. Bonilla turned $5.9 mil into $29 mil because the Mets took awful advice.

2. Sutter’s payments started in ‘93. The Braves made the World Series in ‘92 and have been a very good team since. The Mets have a double whammy: The Mets we’re not only bad when the deferments started, because of the Madoff stuff, they’re viewed as cheap.

3. The Braves deal just looks like a horrible contract and we’ve seen plenty of those. Bonilla’s is just bad because it didn’t have to happen. When you’re a bad team, the bad shyt you do gets highlighted more. Life ain’t fair. You know when Bobby Bonilla day isn’t that big of a deal? When the Mets are good.

  1. Like I said previously, do we really care? It happened whether at inception, in the middle or after player stopped playing. What's the difference?
  2. Sutter stopped playing in 1988, he was part of a historically bad team his last year. The Braves were good in the 90s albeit disappointing only winning one WS. But have been very mid ever since. I don't think they have won a playoff round since Bobby Cox retired. lol
  3. The Braves deal is horrible if the Bonilla one is. None of them have to happen, they are all mutually agreed upon. And yeah, that's basically the crux of my argument highlighting Bonilla over all these other contract deferments isn't fair and is just a media narrative they and some fans like to feed into. The Mets are good. They had a winning record last year and have made the WS more recently than most teams *coughYankees*cough

You can get up off your knees after that prayer. lol

Prayer?

The last time the Mets were relevant, senile ass Ronald Reagan was the President and crack was the hot new drug on the scene.

Little did they know back then that both things were bad for this country.

Something tells me Jennifer could turn things around.
