The problem is that people are conflating the Fox News/CNN Tea Party with the original Tea party Movement that actually began as a grass roots movement all across America. There are many tea party folk who actually believe in small government, federal debt reduction, low to no taxes, individualism, and self reliance. The Fox News Tea party is basically a big government, war mongering, fake movement designed to confuse the masses and co-opt the original tea party movement in order for it to be more inline with the neo-conservative republican facist movement.

Im not sure I would say that the Tea Party members prefer to be more destitute. I think the genuine tea par tiers are more interested in reducing the debt and size of government above all else. I actually think many OWS members and Tea Partiers actually share many views, however the powers that be up above are doing their best to highlight any schisms that exist between the two groups in order to play up the Democrat vs Republican narrative.

And I'm saying that the original conception would lead to those exact people sharing those exact views to become more destitute.

And I don't think that they WANT to be more destitute. I'm sure that they believe that this would lead to more prosperity for both the individual and the country. I'm just saying that the historical outcome of those views implemented here and elsewhere (See: Chile under Pinochet, Argentina during the same time period, the Regan era for a lesser implementation) have lead to regressive income distributions, i.e. them becoming poorer.

Do I think that OWS and the people of the Tea Party have many of the same grievances? Yeah. Do I believe that it's JUST the media highlighting the schisms? Not really. They're simply exacerbating ideological allegiances that divide them. Until that is revealed, then the divides will still exist (And in this country, where "consociational democracy" is word soup, among other things, don't hold your breath).

P.S.: Listen to nothing from the media about how governmental debt works, they either know nothing or want you to just think that its like individual debt, which it isn't even close to being.
