Hancock was a great idea that did a 180 and ended up being forgettable. Should reboot it instead.
I can't remember where I saw it or read it but someone pointed out that the movie has 2 different premises going on at the same time and they each make the other premise LESS interesting.

You have an amnesiac god who has existed from at least the early 1900s up to the modern time. But due to his amnesia he becomes an alcoholic. The alcohol makes him reckless and dangerous. That makes the general population hate him. The hate feeds the alcohol, you see the cycle. The idea is where does he come from, why is he here. And that makes for a great movie premise.

On the other hand you have Bateman's character trying to make him a hero. And somehow someway Bateman's wife is Hancock's ex-wife. And she just drops the exposition bomb on him with no build up and not much drama. Just, we are THIS but then THIS happened. The end.

The idea of 2 gods drawn to each other due to a force of nature they can't control, but if they were together they lose their power, is also a great premise. But the mere act of telling amnesiac/alcoholic Hancock this, flat out ruins the mystery and ends the plot. Now it's a half baked love story.

The Charlize thing could/should have been a sequel plot. Build Hancock up to be better, let him be a hero. Something of myths and legends. Then in the sequel have Hancock find Charlize and let him slowly piece his past back together. Hell you could even have flashbacks to when things get dicey and they have to separate to survive.
