Correct. The source material is already a mess so I’m not shocked by this. I don’t understand a thing that’s even going on in the games :stopitslime:.

The Sonic movie was good. The Witcher (though I suppose you could argue it’s an adaptation… of an adaptation lol) is decent. But yea I can’t come up with anything else lmao. Imma always have a soft spot for the 90s Street Fighter movie but I’d never argue it was actually a good movie. I wish studios would stop with this nonsense. The TLOU series has a chance of being okay but it was already highly derivative (The Road, Walking Dead etc.) so it’s not like it’d be some huge feat.
The Witcher is off books not a video game. Never saw Sonic but I can guarantee they got very liberal with the plot and it likely lifts certain plot points from the games but is its own thing really. Video game plots aren't as good as movie / TV plots need to be and video games are filled with huge chunks of downtime for the plot as you play the game. When you strip away the gameplay from a video game you'll usually be left with an average to subpar plot and in a movie or TV series that's most of what will be there to hold your attention.

It also doesn't help that games lean way too heavily on plot and background being doled out through audio logs and codex entries.

Apparently this did very well for Paramount+ and was their best performing show. It's getting another season.

Haven't watched it since I don't sub to that service.

I don't subscribe to this notion at all but go off

Mario games are critically acclaimed. The plots are just excuses to have gameplay. People don't have the same expectations for game plots as they do for film, show, and book plots for example because those experiences are entirely driven by the plot where a video game experience is just as much driven by the player playing the gameplay.

Most of the successful game to movie/TV series adaptation abandon being entirely faithful to the game plot. Add to that many game writers just aren't at the same level of successful film and book writers.

You can take some of the most popular plots in games and easily see they rip off elements of popular movies. How often does that work the other way around?

This doesn't automatically by default mean movie plots are more nuanced.

The new mortal kombat movie is objectively worse than the mortal kombat game plots, especially 9, the one that rebooted the series.

It's also clear that the length of movies condenses and hampers story and character development that games and TV shows don't have issues with.

And there are movies that rip off games, just not all successful. Remember death race? No one does, but the point remains

I enjoyed it. Looking forward to the second season. Hoping to see more nude scenes from the covenant with the child bearing hips

Should I even bother with Season 1? I am a huge Halo fan, but didn't bother to get paramount + to binge it due to mixed word of mouth
