The Ghost of Jack Tripper
I met Half early '95 up at WNYU. DJ Mayhem was really trying to help him get his career off, so he would be up there freestyling every week. Mayhem was working A&R at Penalty Records and was doing stuff with Capone and Noreaga, so he was trying to sign Half. Dude would kill every single freestyle he did! DJ Scratch started making tracks for him after awhile. He's from the same projects. So we used to have tapes and tapes of his stuff that nobody's heard before. He had one called "Make It Hot" that I still play today. The Roots came up one night, and played live in the studio. And Natural Elements, Sadat X, Lord Tariq, Black Thought, Dice Raw, Malik B and Half all freestyled for like an hour back and forth. Good times.
The doc was depressing. You never really know what someone's life is like, and I didn't know dude was dealing with all of that. He definitely had the talent to take things to the next level and be successful. Really sad story.
