When I see kids from poor backgrounds do well because they were raised in a good household, that's all I need to know to explain why culture is the reason for crime over poverty.

Is that not a safe assumption?
And why is the “culture” like this? Because of the system that enables the poverty @Godless Liberal CEO is speaking of.
Of course a person can make it despite poverty, but if the percentage of people in poverty within said “culture” is higher than other groups, expect the “culture“ of note to exhibit qualities that are endemic to poverty at a higher rate than the groups of comparison.
This is kinda obvious to anyone paying attention, so it damn near looks like you’re arguing in bad faith.

Poverty is certainly a factor (21% comparatively, or 3% yoy comparatively), but clearly the mass proliferation of guns has an outsized affect on the issue.

Folks have their favorite talking points but addressing gun violence will require a multipronged comprehensive approach.

Have a lot of poor people with a lot of guns baked this pie.

The system can be beaten, but you need accountability. The culture doesn't take accountability.

Here's a correlation, we've been making the same excuses for the same amount of we've been at the bottom.

We will be a permanent underclass because we continue to use the excuses you're using. That's the key for black folks to get out the gutter.

Poverty is literally the primary driver of crime. That’s a fact, I don’t really care for ur opinions because unless you have something to back them up it doesn’t matter.

There has to be another factor at work here. We should begin by asking what caused homicides to drop the years 1993- 2017.

What is caused the homicides to rise after 2017?

Did the poverty rate increase after 2017?

Why does the "mass proliferation of guns" have an outsized impact on the black community and doesn't have any influence in the rates among white or Hispanic communities?

If "mass proliferation of guns" was the cause, the rates would be rising among all ethnic groups, no?

The data shows it has an outsized affect on poor communities and black communities happen to be poorer. We can trace that back to half a millennium of anti black policies in this country.

Is this a serious question?

The gaps between black and white families in 30k.

Regarding Latinos, I’ll just take your peoples word for it:

As gun violence and mass shootings become more common and more deadly, a staggering 71 percent of Latino voters report fearing for their “personal safety from mass shootings in public places”9 and another 53 percent of Hispanic voters feel “very concerned” about gun violence in their communities.10 Recent polling data indicate that gun violence is a top concern for Hispanic voters and that Hispanic communities overwhelmingly support stronger gun laws. Currently, Hispanic voters list gun violence as their most important issue, with voters indicating they are willing to support officials who push for stronger gun safety regardless of party affiliation.11Additional polling data on a larger sample size found that gun violence ranks among the top two priorities for Latino voters.12

Each year, more than 4,100 Latinx people die from gun violence in the United States—an average of 11 deaths every day—and 13,300 are shot and wounded.6 Six in 10 gun deaths among Latinx people in the United States are homicides, and Latinx people are twice as likely to die by gun homicide and four times as likely to be wounded by an assault with a gun as white people.7

@OfTheCross :francis:

The burden of gun violence is also borne by Latinx children and teens, who are three times more likely to be killed by gun homicide than their white peers12and are also more likely to be exposed to violence in cities.13
