To those wondering, you can probably dump this off onto MTA on PC if its just the map. Everyone's gotta have the same version as the server. I haven't look at MTA in depth but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Take-Two would never contract the work for commercial release. It's already a mod of too-high quality. Look at the recent Trilogy release.

Take two, Rockstar's publisher, is the reason a lot of these mods get taken down.

They did this last year due to the GTA trilogy remasters.

Hopefully this mod stays active, but I wouldn't be surprised if Take two hits them with legal action.

Technically they used the Unreal Engine to put these games out quickly with minimal developmental time.

I feel like Rockstar has fukked up by not expanding on the 3D Universe. We all know GTA Online got them lazy as hell but they could easily pump out games based on the 3D Universe using a refined version of that engine. I doubt people would even care about graphics. There is so much on the table worth exploring. What happened after GTA 3? There is a power vacuum in Liberty. Who took over the Leone family? What did Claude and Catalina get up to between SA and 3? San Andreas has so much unused map like golf courses, an observatory, a movie studio etc. Those bullshyt remasters sold 10M in like a week or month. The audience is there. They would just need to have the drive to capitalize on it.

They don't use that engine anymore. And trying to emulate it on newer hardware would take away from it's...I"character" I guess? It just wouldn't be the same

GTA 6 probably would have been out by now, but the huge success of GTA Online has given them a reason to take their time.

Plus Rockstar Games/Take Two don't have any competition in their genre. Especially with the most recent Saints Row game flopping hard.
