It feels tempting, but I assume the console will launch at $599USD. If so there is no way I am paying $800CDN for a console upgrade. I wish these consoles can release strong at the jump

Impossible they still losing money by selling the OG PS5 at $500. An extra $100 will get you nothing in terms of meaningful performace gains..

If they can guarantee a strong console from the jump, then sure. It's hard to justify that price for an upgrade unless I can get a crazy trade in deal for my regular PS5
I’d buy an $800 day one console.

But as Sony, The industry leader? has found the price point for the masses is around $400 maybe even less. So an $800 base console is out of the question :manny:

Then there would be a stronger mid-gen upgrade. Thats how technology works…

Are people on pc still running with GPU’s from 2020?

The problem is consoles usually use weaker GPUs at launch that are outdated at launch in terms of power. I wouldn't mind spending the extra $100USD at launch if it can guarantee a strong console for the gen.

$800USD at launch will be suicide if you're talking about $800USD at launch because most markets wouldn't be able to support that

You would, but most people wouldn’t. The consoles already start out as loss leading products and the prices of chips are staying stagnant now so they can’t even mark them down anymore.

The amount of tech we get at the start of the generation is already kind of overkill for these companies. This is the compromise, for most of us we can just trade in our current consoles and upgrade for 150-200 thats not a big ask imo

Thats why i laugh about the “sony would make consoles 1000 dollars without xbox thing” because people are becoming very price sensitive right now.

GPU ain’t the problem. To have meaningful change in a games performance it’s the CPU that’s needs to be upgraded. But CPU upgrades are much less scaleable so devs actually have to put in lots of work to take advantage of CPU upgrades.

On PC a $100 GPU upgrade literally just affords you like 5FPS or a slight resolution improvement.

Consoles can probably squeeze a bit more out of $100. But the difference would still be minuscule to most people.

I agree :ehh:
