This is LITERALLY the first time I've seen this gif used properly. Most usage on thecoli has been flagrantly horrible up to this point. pos rep.

You can't just buy your way into the Map data game. The core piece of Map data (roads, boundaries, local data) literally changes everyday in every locale so all the Map data companies they buy will always have an outdated dataset from the jump.

Google has the largest army of active data acquisition (Street View cars/backpacks) and it's still not adequate enough for the precision that most people want today ... yet it's an order of magnitude better than anything else out there.

NOBODY in the next 3-4 years will top Google Maps... .and by then it'll be even further ahead

Apple is just arrogant

What people don't understand is that Google Maps could literally STOP making ANY progress for the next few years and it would still have a large lead over most mobile alternatives and some full GPS alternatives....

Apple and any other mobile competitor to Google Maps needs to just get their shyt good enough for 2nd place...

The Yay
I was wondering how long it would take before the popped up on here.

Google has 7,000 ppl dedicated to maps.
Apple has 13,000 ppl total not including Retail.

Maps is probably top 3 in terms of complex software, its going to take apple sometime to compete with google when it comes to maps
first of all, maps isnt very complex in terms of actual software algorithms. maintaining and acquiring the ever-changing dataset is the main point of difficulty.

second of all, maybe apple should have hired more employees since they have pretty good profits.... they need to stop steve mcducking it because real software requires real resources.

Remember antenna gate?

"You're holding it the wrong way"

We keep telling you nikkas that this shyt is almost over but keep feeding into this bullshyt cult where they sell you manure and tell you it's chocolate cake.

You can fool some people SOMETIMES but you can't fool all the people ALL THE TIME

No way jobs would have let this come out. He paid attention to everything.

The fact is that the iPhone 5 feels midrange all around and in a way I'm glad this maps disaster is happening to them

Not disagreeing. I mean the whole company is built around searching. But expect apple to start buying up more companies and start hiring more ppl for this.

This might be one of those, we'll suffer now but make it less painful going forward.
Put the pipe down. Apple will completely need to change their business model to try to compete with Google in maps.

Its not going to happen

Basically.

Google's whole shyt is search and providing you with the means to access data in various ways via your devices whether it be through Android or otherwise.

Apple's business is selling user friendly technology with appealing designs which together provides the consumer with some sort of personal value. The price of said items adds to the personal value because expensive and visually appealing items are seen as status symbols or items of great value even if there is a competitor that offers a superior or comparable item. This is basic marketing 101. It's literally what you will learn in the first two weeks in a Marketing Class in college.

By trying to do what Google does it runs the risk of spreading itself too thin. I forgot what the term for that is call but it's a marketing lingo for "stay in your lane". It's why Google does'nt go too hard on the manufacturers for basterdizing Android on their devices. If you wanna ruin something that works very well with your own shyt cool but those who follow the blueprint will be rewarded, ex. Samsung, Asus, etc. And all the while, the nature of Android itself allows for the user to define it's own experience.
