Gregg Popovich slams Donald Trump as ‘soulless coward’

Gregg Popovich doesn’t like Donald Trump.

It’s been a recurring message from the Spurs coach, who Monday sounded off on the President.

In a report from The Nation, Popovich called up editor Dave Zirin to voice his outrage, calling Trump a “soulless coward” after he falsely claimed Monday that Barack Obama and other former presidents did not call or reach out to console the families of soldiers that were killed in action.

This man in the Oval Office is a soulless coward who thinks that he can only become large by belittling others. This has of course been a common practice of his, but to do it in this manner — and to lie about how previous Presidents responded to the deaths of soldiers — is as low as it gets,” Popovich said. “We have a pathological liar in the White House: unfit intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically to hold this office and the whole world knows it, especially those around him every day.

“The people who work with this President should be ashamed because they know it better than anyone just how unfit he is, and yet they choose to do nothing about it. This is their shame most of all.”

It’s not the first time Popovich has taken a stance opposing Trump. Even when he was still President-elect, the coach didn’t stay silent.

“I’m just sick to my stomach,” Popovich said back in November. “He is in charge of our country. That’s disgusting.”
