This doesn't make much sense but I think this is what they mean....sexual orientation is what u prefer sexually and what u attracted to. If a woman or man in jail for a long time...they may have sex with another person of the same gender (not that I agree with it). They may have a preference for the opposite sex...but engaging in homosexual encounters due to their environment with no access to the opposite sex. If they weren't in jail....they wouldn't do anything with someone of the same sex.

and that was typical of a lot of the dudes in that culture. And a lot of other cultures share that same sentiment.
