I'm all for fighting and taking a hard stance on matters, but within the acceptable bounds of the law. A governor telling people they shouldn't live somewhere because of their beliefs is unconstitutional-like stance to take (sans-legislation).
That's not what he said though.

Never mind for the moment that even a cursory listen of Cuomo’s remarks reveals that he was not talking about whether or not extreme conservative New Yorkers are welcome in the state, but the political prospects of extreme conservative political candidates
—a subject Cuomo knows well, since he defeated a Tea Party-backed opponent by 27 points in 2010 to win his seat.

So when are the reeducation camps comings? i thought inclusiveness and diversity was the progressive dream?

Holding different political views in a free democracy has no place in a free democracy!!!!!

This isn't something to be celebrated. Sounds bordering on unconstitutional for a Governor to even suggest such a thing. An action like that would be a clear violation of the 1st Amendment.

This is what yall want? An echo chamber?

Don't buy into the Right narrative here. The context of the statement was a discussion about the empirical odds of an extreme right-wing candidate achieving higher elected office in the state. Cuomo was just describing their highly improbable chance at winning in the current political climate with the phrase "extreme conservatives have no place in New York," drawing on the state's decades of history and the far Right's continued losses here. The Right latched onto it as if he was taking a moral stance on the existence and acceptance of people who hold far Right views in the state, and are using that deliberate distortion to generate outrage and controversy. This should be a non-story.

saying what people are thinking

there are reasons why conservative states are cesspools of poor, uneducated, ignorant, racist, incestuous ugly hicks with no positive influence on american society, and its not because it's a society mixed with different people of different ideology

this is true but the reality of his comment is also true. Two groups of people who have completely different visions on how society should be run and how people should be treated within the society shouldn't be trying to live side by side. It's like marrying a woman you hate.

You're acting like he's the extremist here. The people he's referring to make others around them uncomfortable for all the wrong reasons. I wouldn't want them in my state either.

You can hold any opinion you wish. The supreme law states that government can't decide what is or isn't acceptable speech/beliefs in reference to a secular society. This man is a governor, not someone on the street. The problem with government/politician deciding what is acceptable beliefs is the question of who decides and what they decide on. Who decides what is extreme?

I'm a progressive and I'm "pro-assault-weapon" but not anti-gay. Am I extreme? Am I not welcomed? Who decides?

This is a logical argument and not an emotional one, so save the emotion angle. Can you make a logical argument for his statement?

That's the thing though, I'm not a conservative. I'm probably one of the most far-left posters on this site.

Do you care to make a logical argument or are you going to deflect?

Exactly. Someone listened to the whole interview in context instead of the gotcha soundbite the right wing media made out of it.

you're one of those liberal pussies that want to talk everything over and give everything a chance

the political landscape in this country is past that nonsense.

So you don't actually have a logical argument, just an emotional plea and insults?

Good for you. You're a real rebel.

I just read the full transcript and he was speaking about elections. I stand corrected and I took it out of context from the article posted.

Under the current laws no you can't make a logical argument for the statement. I don't think it's any more logical to pretend that people with 2 opposing views on how a government should be ran can live together. It's not like pepsi and coke where we can both enjoy our choice at the same time.

The truth is that dissenting and opposing views are healthy for life in general. It forces you to think and defend your beliefs, and it provides a system of checks. The problem we have in America is that there is no proper and procedural dissent, only sabotage. One party sabotaging the other to win. This is not a proper debate and not proper dissent.
