Rean's issue is that if you watch anime and read manga, he comes across as the generic Mc who gets a harem. The Kitro type basically from SAO. A lot of times boring and generic get twisted together. I think Rean is a decent Mc. Reverie was easily him at his best. And I think he was solid in CS 1+2, The problem with him in 3+4 is that he has this kind of black hole thing when other female characters are with him. His best interactions came with the male characters, Celine and Sara. There is also the angle people can get annoyed with is that in 3+4 his development gets recycled which bothers people. But I still think the fanbase is overcritical of him.

Now, Rean is absolutely dense and oblivious. Let's not say he's not that :pachaha:.

Rean is a generic harem male lead. The cast of the series undeservingly adulates him constantly and he doesn't even really become a tolerable character until Cold Steel III. That's only because they found a role for his character that suits him and surrounded him with characters that complimented him in that role.

I just started the game and he's already more tolerable than Estelle.
I don’t know what to tell you. Estelle is a far more interesting character that Rean. She’s comical on her own. Rean is a character that is entirely dependent on other characters because he’s a mild milk toast self insert meant to make the player feel like a special boy and so girls can unrealistically throw themselves at him.

Estelle has a personality. She gets emotional and will snap at people. She’s fun and funny.

Rean has no real personality other than don’t offend anybody, be nice, say corny cliches.

Rean is good - but a lot of that criticism flows with who else is in the party a lot of the time. If you wanted nonstop OP shyt in a braindead game and kept Fie around, you played yourself. If you trusted the 'canon' and kept Alisa's boring ass around, you played yourself.

Well I always separated story bonding event stuff from gameplay because the bonuses rarely made a difference. But man the writing on 4's female bonding events outside of Alisa, Towa and Sara were such :trash:. I can't even call that writing mid. It's beyond worse than the lowest regard of the word mid. Also, for anyone that has played the trilogy + Reverie. There is no canon girl after CS 2.
Gameplay wise, Cold Steel games are the biggest joke. I rolled with Rean, Alisa/Emma, Laura and Fie/Sara. shyt was a snooze :mjlol: on nightmare. Tbh running with Rean, Sara, Laura and Fie might be optimal. I think for 3 & 4 swap Crow for Sara.

Like outside of maybeeee the first chapter bosses, which are more so a thing of not having the broken stuff in your disposal. Like I struggled at times with Azure final chapter on nightmare. Especially the final final boss. They shyt had me heated, since I didn't focus too much on the broken setups with the bells.

At least Reverie made it for fun with the tanky bosses. So doing the OP strats wasn't boring this time around. Plus, the shorter story meant bosses were a decent challenge if you didn't go ham on the broken setups.

When I played with the fansub overlay Kuro was actually a solid challenge throughout. Then again it's not intuitive playing with a spreadsheet, so I want to replay it to see if it's still like that.

If you don't know what to tell me then why did you write this?
