You sound like you are a reader of the books...I'm not.
So while I agree..they have a massive amount of potential material to work from, which is great. Its hard to tell clear stories and develop meaningful characters for TV when there are so many disjointed stories.

I feel like the characters are becoming more and more disposable as they build on the whole Westeros mythology. Some people may not care, but I feel like that hurts the show and makes it feel like I'm watching The Young and The Restless...

You are right it is very soap operaish just with magic. But as far as the main characters go, and Bran is definitely a main character dude definitely has a plan.
