One I like about Goodfellas was that it told by some who wasn't in the mafia (He was half Irish and could not officially be MADE).
Same thing with casino as well. An outside jew. Interesting how scorsese does that. And i agree that good fellas is the best crime drama ever. Lowkry jimmy Conway is probably the biggest sociopath on film to death.

I haven't watched Goodfellas but I've watched Godfather. Godfather is the GOAT movie but from what I've read, it is complete fiction while Goodfellas was very realistic in its portrayal of gangsters. So as a gangster movie, I can see why many would prefer it over the godfather.

Godfather took elements from different people's lives and made one family out of it. But I think the two main influences were Carlo gambino and the pope Alexander VI

I like Casino more then Goodfella's :manny:
I'm right there with ya breh.
Good but it doesnt have the impact this Goodfellas had.
Good fella was revolutionary and slightly before its time.
It's a classic but what's this "revolutionary" talk :dahell:
A story about Henry Hill who turned on the Mob is a dime a dozen story if you wanna keep it all the way live :manny:
Ahead of it's time ? It was a story about past events :dahell: Explain this groundbreaking shyt that went down, I'm not slighting the movie but feel free to enlighten me.
Anyway...I knew the Casino story before I ever saw the movie.
Casino is Scorcese's masterpiece :whoo:
That whole part of history is well known but never really got thrown under the scope like that before.
I wished Chicago was repped for it's role a little more but it is an awful lot of story to thoroughly tell in so much time.
2 goat movies tho :yeshrug:

True. The story goes that Mario Puzo never actually met anyone in the mafia until after his books became popular.
Goodfellas is based on the life of Henry Hill a known snitch.

I know you're supposed to say Godfather 1 and 2 are the GOATs but I enjoy Goodfellas more. I'll put it this way. I have to be in a certain mood to watch the Godfather movies. Goodfellas, doesn't matter where I'm at or what time it is, if it's on, I have to watch it. Probably has the greatest replay value of any movie.

It's the way thats the was shot. The close ups ,freeze frames and use of narration. That's is what makes it slightly ahead of its time.

Literally gave him the death stare :wow:
What i dont understand is why Jimmy was given so much power. Dude was complicit in the murder of Billy bats. Killed many mob connected figures just because he didnt want them snitching on him about the latanza heist. Dude had so kuch pull to where you would have thought he was an underboss for the mob, but he was only an affiliate :mindblown: he wasnt even made, nor was he Italian :mindblown:

Godfather better than Goodfellas?! . . . Hell No!

Godfather was in the grand scheme of things, more grandiose and operatic, it was a romanticized portrayal of the mob, it was regal, and pushed the honor and loyalty thing heavy throughout the film.
Don't get me wrong, i like the GF, but to me, Goodfellas set the stage for realistic, no p*ssy footin, real life portrayal of the real mob.

Goodfellas not only gave legendary lines, it gave the audience a realistic view of the mob, the mob is not made up of ultra fancy, ivy league educated guys, these are vicious killers that are capable of some really sick shyt.
loyalty and honor is a lie, wise guys stab each other in the back all the time.

its a dirty, murky, extremely violent world full of cut throats, high on drugs. Goodfellas had that world down cold! Scorsese didnt need to travel to sicily or cali to make his movie grandiose, he made it a classic because he
captured the everyday wise guy and he succeeded.

Except for part about Goodfellas being better than Godfather this post are right the money.

I always wondered why Tommy got whacked for Billy Bats and not Jimmy, especially considering the fact that Jimmy had more of a motive to kill him since Bats wanted the business back that Jimmy took over when he was in jail. Only explanation I've seen is that Jimmy was an earner and made a lot of money for everybody while Tommy was too much of a hot head and they were looking for any decent excuse to kill him :yeshrug:

My favorite movie. Had it on VHS and would watch it back to back whenever we had a hurricane and the cable went out. Never saw The Godfather. Tried watching it once but the shyt was just too long and I got bored. Will give it a chance in a few years when I'm old and washed
