I'm cool with it

I don't mind the efforts to reduce the injuries and concussions

The league would be very irresponsible to the current and future players if they don't begin to adjust the sport to complement the scientific suggestion that some injuries and concussion related disorders are avoidable

"bu bu it's tradition, why they changing the sport":rudy: fakkit nikka, there was a time when these nikkas had no face mask, stop trying to live dangerously through other folks

Here's the fatal flaw in your argument: Safety at the expense of the actual game defeats the purpose of playing at all.

Football is an inherently violent sport. It's one thing to protect players and nobody is upset at wanting to preserve player safety. The problem is that for a sport like football, you can only do so much before you infringe on the game itself and that's what eliminating kickoffs would do. Having kickoffs isn't irresponsible to the players because it's not as if the players are all wanting kickoffs to go away (in fact, there's an entire section of the team that would be assed out if kickoffs went away). Even those that suffer concussions or are at risk will tell you the same thing: this is the life they chose.

What's next? In order to prevent those noncontact ACL tears, foam rubber fields?

If you want to eliminate kickoffs this is what I would do.

PATs would be 25 (35 yd FG) ... Opposing team would get the ball at the 30

The spin is the coach would get to chose where to kick the PAT, anywhere from the 25 to 45 and that will determine field position. So if they attempt a 60 yd PAT than the ball will be placed at the 2.

All FG, Safety and 2pt tries will result in a Free Kick.

Stupid rule but that's where Football is going

But because the game is inherently violent and we are not living in the times of roman gladiators, they should do what is needed to maintain the high quality talent that the NFL demands. Besides, NFL reported a slight decline in concussion reported during the kickoffs, since the last kickoff adjustment. That's a good thing both for the sport and fans

So if that's the case, just keep it there. Don't eliminate kickoffs. So many concussions happen now with the QB getting sacked. Should they eliminate rushing the passer? The WR's get concussed being a defenseless receiver. Should the NFL outlaw pass deflections? Certain things in football, while it's unfortunate and awful, are unavoidable.

Bob Ryan even said today, if we were all following common sense, football wouldn't even be allowed to be played, but this country has an obsession with the barbarity that is football.

Easy now, fellas. This is just a suggestion at the moment. Nothing is imminent, but don't act like you guys really watch kickoffs or care about them. It's sandwiched between five minute commercial breaks and most of you are probably taking a leak or getting some food, so spare me the "field position" and it's "part of the game" arguments.

In reality, the players should be in favor of this. The 4th string linebackers and guys fresh off the practice squad who comprise the majority of kickoff teams will have longer careers and more career earnings as a result of a potential rule change.

How exciting would it be to know your team is NEVER out of it?

Pats down by 24 in the 4th? No problem, score and get the ball back as many times as you want. Who wouldn't want to watch the game in Tom Brady's hands for the entire quarter?

Imagine RG3 leading the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history behind six 4th quarter scores to erase a 52-10 deficit!

I think you guys should back away from the emotion of the current moment and think about the long-term possibilities with such a rule in place.

The reason why they came up with roughing the passer penalty, to protect the QB
The reason why they are trying to work on "proper tackling" rules, is to protect the WR

You protect the talent, you will always have fans. "Violence" alone is not what drives the popularity of the NFL, the high competitive talent is the main draw. Besides, barbarity is just a figment of speech. There are no matches to the death and no social/political changes will result at the conclusion of a NFL game because it's just that, a game

EDIT: I'm sure nikkas were saying to "keep it there, don't water this man sport further" when they started wearing mask

and moving the kickoff line up = limiting the amount of kickoffs, thus protecting special teams players.

My examples were going a step further and fukking the game up, which is what eliminating kickoffs would do.

Wearing a helmet doesn't alter how the game is played. It protects you. It's like how in race car driving they have new seats, new seat belts and always look to fix the helmets to increase rider safety. Unfortunately, like this time last year, somebody can very well get into a collision and die even with that safety. People appreciate when you're doing what you can, but injuries that can shorten and end careers come with the territory of playing pro football.
