fukking @ssholes taking antibiotics when they don't need it, and when they do, they don't finish their cycle.

Stupid fukks. In 2011 I got MRSA (super resistant staph infection) after doing jiu-jitsu, and I almost lost my leg. It went from a small pimple above my knee to the size of a large grapefruit in 12-18 hours.

One of the most terrifying experiences in my whole life. I know MRSA isn't Gonorrhea but it all goes back to people not finishing their meds. Staph, mostly in the form of MRSA, is literally killing a shyt load of people in 2014, all because of this same root issue.
the overuse of antibiotic soaps is part of the problem too
heard somewhere (NPR IRRC) that they are starting to get banned because one if the active agents was recently discovered in our water table and it causes amongst other things endocrine dysfunctions, on top of contributing to ever increasing bacterial resistance.

FDA Asks For Proof That Antibacterial Soaps Protect Health

There's no evidence that triclosan and other chemicals in antibacterial soaps do a better job than plain soap and water, the FDA says.

In hospitals, people are bathed with soaps containing the antibacterial triclosan to reduce the risk of serious infections in surgery. But that doesn't necessarily mean we should be using triclosan soap in the kitchen and the bathroom, the Food and Drug Administration says.

The agency on Monday took a step toward restricting the use of triclosan and other antibacterial chemicals widely used in soap, deodorant, cosmetics and hundreds of other consumer products.

The FDA told manufacturers that they would have to prove the chemicals are safe for long-term daily use and that they do a better job of keeping people from getting sick than with plain soap and water.

The agency said that so far there is "no evidence" that antimicrobial soap products keep kids healthier or reduce the spread of colds and flu more than regular soap. The only study showing health benefits in consumer products has been with Total toothpaste, where triclosan reduced the risk of gingivitis.

If manufacturers of other products can't come up with evidence of health benefits, the FDA in a proposed rule, they would need to reformulate or relabel products to keep them on the market. The rule gives manufacturers a year to compile the data.

The companies will supply those data, according to a spokesman for the American Cleaning Institute, a trade association.

"We are perplexed that the agency would suggest there is no evidence that antibacterial soaps are beneficial," Brian Sansoni The Associated Press. "Our industry sent the FDA in-depth data in 2008 showing that antibacterial soaps are more effective in killing germs when compared with non-antibacterial soaps."

There's some evidence suggesting that widespread use of triclosan, which is used in liquid soaps, and triclocarban, which is used in bar soaps, could lead to the development of germs that are resistant to antibiotics. Other studies have found that exposure to these chemicals disrupts hormone cycles in animals. But it's not known whether they have the same effect in humans.

"This is one of those areas where we don't have complete medical information," says , executive vice president at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, N.Y., and a spokesman for the Infectious Diseases Society of America. "But there really is very little evidence that this is truly going to make any difference with hygiene," Glatt told Shots.

Given the theoretical risks and little proof of benefit, Glatt says, it makes sense to skip the antibacterial soap. "We don't know the risks and we don't really know the benefits. I don't think that it's rocket science. You make a common-sense decision. You do the least harm."

The FDA's proposed rule-making doesn't affect the use of these chemicals in hospitals, where they are used in higher concentrations. "In the operating room you want things more sterile than in your office," Glatt notes.

The question of whether triclosan should be in consumer products has been asked almost since the introduction of the products back in the 1970s. The FDA issued a draft back in 1978 but didn't issue a proposed rule until Monday.

In 2009, Food and Water Watch and other environmental groups the FDA to ban triclosan in consumer products. "They're moving a lot more slowly than we're asking for, but at least they're doing something," Patti Lovera, the group's assistant director, told Shots Monday.

Earlier this year, the governor of the state of Minnesota signed an phasing out the use of products with triclosan by state agencies.

The Environmental Protection Agency, which regulates the use of triclosan as a pesticide, last reviewed the safety of triclosan in 2008. It it is starting another review of the issue.

I'm ignorant when it comes to STDs, can you get it while being strapped up? Once a woman has it once, and gets treated, can she still pass it on?

Improper use of a condom, yes, if you slide it off instead of rolling it up, the bacteria in her sexual fluid can make it to your urethra and that's how most men get infected. Also, if you smashing randoms, if you can't shower, put hand gel on your joint or wipes with alcohol. The bacteria can live in your underwear or pants for a few hours.

Man has been at war with "germs" from the start. It's our greatest "enemy" (outside of ourselves). They will mutate and new strands will evolve. Of course, we should do our part to minimize any human-influenced upcoming generations but it will always be there.

there is a limit to the number of viable and virulent mutative permutations of germ dna/rna, I imagine someday we may have a drug or drugs to address all of them, like a designer vaccine drug catalog

 Please train somewhere where the mats are cleaned everyday. Please Wash IMMEDIATELY after class, friend. Lets not rest and chill in filth while demonic molecules fester. Also, when you go home please use 2 wash rags. One for your initial wash and the other for your rinse wash. Please use head and shoulders for your first body wash because the chemicals in the formula crush filth.

Never use the same rag twice after washing from BJJ practice.

Im sorry you almost lost your leg, friend. Sometimes training partners are filthy and owners dont take care of their mats.

Its so demonic, friend.

Man...I've heard of entire high school wrestling teams getting sidelined because of one breakout. Sounds like it happened to you guys. Sucks.

It really is so demonic. I don't trust anyone, friend. What I do now is stay late myself after every time I train, and clean the mats myself. I guess I can't control it if I don't hit 2 sessions back-to-back, but I keep that cleaner out there and put a sign up that tells people to clean the mats every time.

What's really scary is this dude the other day was like "Oh man, if you do gi, you don't need to clean the mats after. it only matters for no-gi."

:merchant::mindblown::camby:

If anyone doesn't know, the gi training involves wearing the jacket and pants, belt, etc. No-gi training is like shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard. No-gi is way more sweaty and there's usually more skin contact.

:merchant: WHERE IS THE TEACHER!, friend. Ultimately hes the one responsible. How can you have filthy mats and call yourself a professional. This is not kosher like hotdogs. Man i would have to find a new place to train. Anytime someone comes in with a filthy gi i tell them, hey your gi stinks friend and then i tell the teacher because people like that are putting families at risk. Coming in with a gi thats been sitting in a hamper from last class for days. Sickening. I cant be goin home kissing my family thinking about if a remnant of filth from someones disgusting gi is still on my mouth after the shower. No. Now that im training again and i have a son i have to be extra careful. Friends also have to be careful because many friends have girlfriends. You gonna end up giving your woman a private part infection being disgusting from filthy mats. :snoop:

Its so demonic, friend.
