Great moment , but they shot their load for a nitro instead of building a Ppv and reaping the buys
Na, it was perfect because the build up was unexpected.

You had Hoegan running the WCW as a heel feuding with Sting on the main event and the face of WCW.

You had Goldberg on the rise, just squashing lower to mid tier and some high caliber wrestlers.

Noone expected Goldberg to beat Hoegan in that fashion.

That was great storytelling. I wish WWE would've booked Daniel Bryan or Kofi Kingstons first title win like that instead of wrestlemania.

I remember there was an appearance from DDP and Karl Malone at this nitro (I used to mark for the mail man back then)

Nah it sucked everyone knew Goldberg was beating Hogan. You build it to your biggest ppv which is Starrcade. There was no build or storyline with Goldberg vs Hogan they just threw the match togeather.

Goldberg should've won World War 3 battle royal then faced Hogan at Starrcade with the stipulation if Hogan wins the nwo takes over WCW but if Goldberg wins the nwo is done, and that should've been the storyline to end the nwo

What swayed Hoegan to drop the title clean? Other than they were in goldbergs hometown?
TNT execs were there, so Hogan usually showed up for those shows. The match was supposed to be a dark match at the end of the show, but they saw how quickly the tickets sold and Hogan said, might as well put it on TV. People forget that Hogan is really smart at the political game, so the idea was that Hogan could show TNT guys, "Look at how much I drew in the Georgia Dome with this guy". They were going to do a typical NWO ending, but then tickets kept selling so Hogan said fukk it, might as well drop the belt too. The idea was that Hogan would eventually get the win back down the line (Starrcade, possibly?).
