According to that trailor the series is the closest we gonna get to that. Laugh At First Site channel on Youtube got some old timers who recently been touching on Bumpy during his final era..Maybe they'll come back and confirm the accuracy of the series. Or maybe whoever was involved with the historical points in the series will elaborate themselves.
I think the Bumpy Johnson story gets recycaled alot

Other than “Hoodlum” and a brief appearance in “The Cotton Club”, (and around the way neighborhood talk) .. I haven’t seen his story circulating that much. Not in substantial detail.

I didn’t know he was linked up with Malcolm X to that extent until I saw @For Da Bag ’s post in The Root.
