My Thoughts
I started playing God of War in 2007. I saw one of my college roommates playing it and I went to the campus book store, which also sold video games, for some reason, and copped the God of War PS2 Box Set. Since then, I've played them all. I even played the God of War: Betray game on my Razr. They were all great except for Ascension.
What is of interest to me is those release dates. We got the first 2 on the ps2 within 2 years of each other. We even got Chains of Olympus for the PSP, which was developed by Ready at Dawn, in 2008. No problems here. Everything is running smoothly with the game development.
We gotta wait 3 years, until 2010, for GOW 3. That's fine tho cuz it's jumped to the next gen PS3. So the extra year of development time is fine and well warranted. Those graphics were the best I had ever seen at that time. Then, Ready at Dawn dropped Ghost of Sparta on the PSP in 2010. So we back on schedule in terms of game development / release. Sidenote, Ghost of Sparta was the best looking PSP game I've ever seen, along with MGS: Peace Walker, which also dropped in 2010.
Here's where things get a lil suspicious. We don't get another game on the PS3 until 2013, GOW: Ascension, which was a... prequel. They had the GOW 3 engine. They knew Kratos' story so they go back to fill in some gaps. And we had to wait 3 years, for a prequel with the same engine, on the same system as the last game released in 2010?
But wait, it gets worse. Now we have to wait 5 years for God of War to make the jump go PS4. 3 years was already unacceptable for Ascension. 5 years is... c'mon. I'll give em the 1 year next gen jump buffer. That brings em to 2017. Thank the God of War that shyt was dope. 5 years is still too long tho.
So, we got 2 games for ps2, 2 for psp, 2 for ps3, and 1 for ps4. We'll get Ragnarok for the ps5. We likely won't see another until the ps6.
Iont know what happened to Santa Monica Studios. Iont know why Sony ain't had Ready at Dawn working on God of War games to pick up the slack.
Look at what Naughty Dog has done with the Uncharted series. 3 games on the ps3, released in: 07, 09, 11. That's consistency while maintaining top quality output.
We ain't get Uncharted 4 till 2016. A 5 year gap to jump to the ps4 but that was because Naughty Dog dropped The Last of Us on PS3 in 2013, followed by Left Behind in 2014 and The Last of Us Remastered for PS4, in 2014. They stayed working on ps3 and ps4. The gap from The PS4 The Last of Remastered to the PS4 A Thief's End, was 9 months. Then we got Uncharted: The Lost Legacy a year later, in 2017, on the ps4. Naughty Dog closed out the ps4 with the divisive but still great The Last of Us Part ll in 2020.
Santa Monica Studios gotta smarten their game up cuz 3 games in 10 years nikka? I can divide.
That's one every let's say three, (let's say trey) one of them shyts was dookie (one of them shyts was grey). One is still yet to be seen (we have still yet to play). The other was "God of War." That's a one hot game every ten year mean (one hot game in the last 36 hunid days).
