Once university homes got torn down it was a wrap for the west end. Gentrification had been on the AUC’s mind for a while. It started with John hope and Harris homes going first. The area stayed pretty lit, for the most part. Once university was gone things calmed down a lot. It used to be a guaranteed robbery, walking down fair street, at night, without being a familiar face smh.
I’ve passed by the mall this year, a lot more black adults were out. Some of the African shops are still there. I’m not sure if Oakland city is still as hot as it used to be. I don’t have any reason to go there anymore. A lot of my family and friends have moved east to north Decatur, southern Gwinnett, and Stone Mountain/Lithonia. I stay at the border of stone mountain/Lilburn/Snellville, myself. I only moved back from the PNW a little while back and the city proper is barely recognizable anymore.
