The previous generations didn’t have a problem listening to female rappers, so I’m not even sure where this “ewww yuck, women rappers” thing came from.

If you're talking about people that came up on Run DMC, LL, and Rakim - my generation?

No one had a problem with it, but nobody was checking for Ms. Melody's album.

There was no deep discussion of Salt n Pepa. (Much like House of Pain, Lords of Brooklyn, Blood of Abraham or Kid Frost or the Boo Ya Tribe.)

The records were out there, somebody bought them, but they weren't the topic of discussion.

Nobody was clamoring for the next BWP album or Conscious Daughters to hop on the remix.

Nowadays, y'all having full on dissections of female mc's. Megan, Nicki, NoName, Rhapsody...

That's major progress.

Women actually have a seat at the table when it comes to hip hop.

Folks today actually care.

It's amazing really.

Hip Hop as a culture doesn't get enough credit for evolving, imo.

You're not sure why people are turned off by females rapping about being whores? Did Latifah, Lyte and Hill rap about being whores? We went from "Who you calling a bytch to "call me a bytch while you slut me out"

Fab is right because all the female rappers are thot rappers

But GloRilla is also right because male rappers do in fact rap about killing each other, robbing each other, selling drugs, using drugs, fukking hoes then kicking them out and pissing on the graves of dead opps etc

I very much know why people wouldn’t want to listen to Sexyy Red, Ice Spice, and Saweetie, they straight up can’t rap, and are a waste of studio time. But a lot of those women that came out way before them were very much skilled regardless of the content. Kim, Eve, Da Brat, Trina, Foxy, Remy, Boo, La Chat, etc surely were getting listened to by men, and I think the thing that helped with that is cause all of them came up spitting amongst men, so they felt like they HAD to actually rap on top of keeping that sex appeal up.

@WIA20XX i was really talking about the generation from Da Brat/Kim to before Nicki. There wasn’t an attitude of women automatically being dismissed because of women like there is today, and that’s cause a lot of the women during that era (which actually may be 2-3 eras) came up rapping directly along side crews of men like I mentioned already. Now Nicki did come up rapping alongside a crew of men, but look at the crew of men she rapped with :mjlol::mjlol: she was the most masculine out of all of Young Money. There’s a whole host of women rapping today, a complete takeover, something for everybody. Sure, there are women solely rapping about their coochie, but it’s pretty easy to find the ones who aren’t.

Neither of these two should speak on anything relating to hiphop culture.

They can speak on commericial rap. Which is what they do. Only talk and promote pop rap.

But they dont move the needle anywhich way with the art they do.

Fab isn't even saying that, he's saying he thinks that there are dope women rappers not being recognized because of what's being promoted

It's pretty far from "ew, women rappers"
