Cole in 2010 was more of a ladies man rapper who rapped about the common inner city blues, his struggles to getting signed, going to college.

It is not cap. Never even heard the first record and we know Dreams but you're overstating the portion of his output that type of record was. On top of that, simply making certain records doesn't make that the foundation of an artist's identity.

LL was that type of rapper. Mase was that type of rapper. Ja Rule was that type of rapper. Nelly was that type of rapper. Drake is that type of rapper. Wale is that type of rapper.

Even when Cole made female oriented records his approach and perspective was far too Everyman, congruent with the rest of his identity.
