My view on these names is this: If you can explain the significance/meaning of the name, then it is a good name. If not, then what the hell are you doing?
If I named my child Lathomas, then I'd be giving him a meaningless name. All I did was add 2 letters to an already existing name and hindered his chances of economic gain. If I wanted to give him a non-european name, then I'd actually conduct research and name him something like Hannibal. That is a name with power behind it, and it is the name of a brilliant African strategist, or something like Imhotep(ancient egyptian polymath), Nzinga(Queen of an african empire), or Sundiata(first emperor of mali) etc. The fact that these names that these kids are getting have no meaning to them or history just tells me that the parents really didn't plan their family, yet were still defiant enough to want to give their child a "unique" name.
