just finished this and the first half was definitely stronger than the second...seems like a lotta shyt had to conveniently fall into place for this happy ending

& that dance number :gucci: I'm all for curveballs but that shyt really did come out of nowhere and seemed weird just to be weird...you gotta have that going on throughout the show rather than just pulling it out at that moment :yeshrug:All in all, I'd be down to watch S2 just to see how things end up for Yuto and Kenzo

The dance number didn't bother me as much because that wasn't the first time that they completely went left with their presentation of a certain scene. They literally went from live action to animation at one point, if my memory serves me correctly. Interpretative dance is unexpected, but I did say the show is "unique":pachaha:

yea but the animation fit in with the anime/neo-noir style/feel the show had from the start but I see where you're coming from

Finally finished it and yeah not going to lie, the dance scene took me out of the show for a min :pachaha:but then I started to appreciate it more for what it was. At least it wasn't completely "WTF" worthy like The OA's, actually found it to be a unique way of summarizing the entire season. :ehh:

This was really really good though. The cinematography was impressive. My favorite scene had to be in the closing minutes of episode 3. The split screen shots of Donna, Yuto, Kenzo, and Vickers en route with Gotye's "Smoke and Mirrors" playing in the background. :noah:

Those animated sequences looked damn good too, I wonder how much those cost :lupe:

I'm loving this show so far and I'm only on episode 3. I thought it was going to be a very serious gangster drama but its actually funny as hell. I like that its quite different and not like your average crime shows.

I would have overlooked it had it not been for this thread.

fukk Sarah :pacspit:

Only reason she ratted on her boyfriend was because he started drifiting away from her after she lowkey emasculated him and couldn't stand to see another woman at the job showing him a little bit of interest.

Ellis getting murked suddenly by Donna :picard: donna then getting murked by his wife. :mjlol:

Dude who plays Ellis is always playing nervous characters in movies. :mjlol: He's always got that panicky voice.

The brother thought it would be a good idea to start a relationship with the boss's daughter and THEN get her pregnant :dahell: then he tells the boss this nonchalantly like he was talking about the weather. :mjlol:He never thought it would be a good idea to ask a Yakuza boss for the blessing first. :beli:

Finished it after having it on my backlog a long time. Absolutely loved it. The show makes a very quiet transition from crime drama to character study but it handles characters' emotions so well. At the same time the underplayed humor and stylistic switch-ups manage to keep the show entertaining too.

Between this and Too Old To Die Young it seems arthouse filmmaking is finally starting to make ground in tv-series as well.
