Fake outrage
Like many have already said, Fat Joe been saying the damn word, and J.Lo got a pass with it back in like 2001 or something in that "I'm Real" song with Ja Rule. Guess it's cause she got a fat ass

The Twittersphere is a miserable lot
J-Lo didn't get a pass. I remember when people went at her about that too. The same argument was made back then about Fat Joe using the n word also.
I was about to say this too. I was in 7th grade when the J. Lo thing happened and I remember it vividly, J. Lo was dragged publicly for using it, and the exact same arguments were made about Fat Joe, Big Pun, and other Latinos using it...
And just like this, a bunch of people like Ja Rule defended her using it. The moving goalposts have been hurting us from a public relations standpoint with nonblacks for a long time...
@Barnett114 I don't think anyone necessarily had to give her a pass. There's a shytload of videos of Latino gangbangers from Chicago saying "nikka" like it's going outta style, so it's clear that Chi Latinos use it. She grew up around Latinos who use it, probably just as simple as that, but it definitely doesn't look good given her prior comments about blacks...
breh.. these folks dont know where they stand..
one minute, its ok for non-Blacks to say it, "if they grew up around primarily Black folks"..
next minute, they wanna jump online and act offended.. if anything- these kinda threads really show the hypocrisy of this forum..
we got a non-Black poster that says, "fukk Africa".. were told to just put him on ignore.. but, we got a 13pg thread on some dumb b!tch rapping "n!gga" in a song..
In alota ways this board is outta touch with reality, but in this one instance, it's a microcosm of reality. We have a sliding moral scale on who can say it, Non-Black America knows we apply the "pass" very subjectively and inconsistently, and this is proof of that. Shows the hypocrisy we have as a people...
.................................
Black America won't get anything accomplished with the n-word because there is no consensus on its application, we are literally split down the middle at best. I've said this before when cats talk about NY or Bay Area nonblacks who burn the word out, I've been coast to coast, there isn't a single place I've been that I haven't heard nonblacks use the word. From the blackest of places like Memphis, to the most nonblack places like Orange County Ca, I've heard nonblacks use the word. And for every time I've seen black people check nonblacks, there are at least as many times, if not more, that I've seen blacks either defend nonblacks usage or just not say anything at all when they do say it...
And you can put me in that boat, I've been very transparent on here that I've both checked people and let it ride, it is difficult to deal with in certain spaces and I'm guilty of also feeling more comfortable with some than others saying it. And this is literally an issue (or nonissue, depending on how you look at it) everywhere, it ain't just a NY or Bay thing...
We aren't a large enough group, or powerful enough, within the United States, to mute the word when we are completely split and inconsistent on its usage, and don't censor ourselves. So this conversation isn't going anywhere until nonblacks censor themselves and powerful nonblacks rebuke the word on a mass scale, but why should they? Too many nonblacks in this country can just turn it around on us and how many of us call any and everyone that, and use the word in any and every setting...
