I don’t think it’s fair, what she was is not who she became today. 1st female VP is a pioneering achievement, I have a daughter so it’s different

I mean sure, it's a symbolically historic achievement. But the only reason Biden picked her to begin with was because he was catching flack by black voters over the "you ain't black" debacle.

She's literally an affirmative action VP.

So what’s wrong with that? Was an opportunity to be 1st female VP regardless.

Don’t do this breh. You sound like those cacs who discredited every single black person with a job better than theirs as an affirmative action hire.

I mean technically he isn’t lying.

Amy Klobuchar was getting that VP spot before the George Floyd situation forced Biden’s camp back to the drawing board. Just because Harris was picked doesn’t mean that she was his first option.

Not at all. Just calling this how I see it. I dislike tokenism and this appears to be tokenism of the highest order, by having a historically known racist in Joe Biden hiring an alleged black woman just to keep the black people at bay. And it apparently worked because this administration is able to cater to everyone's needs BUT black people and black people act as if it's fine and stay very protective of Kamala; completely ignoring both of their history in damaging black lives.

Imagine if he chose Elizabeth Warren, would we been as receptive to the first Native American woman Vice President? If it's really about the symbolism or would we be more focused on policy and demanding results like we should be doing now???

It’s ALWAYS a reason to call someone an affirmative action hire. fukk that. I’m not with it. She wasn’t just a random picked off the street, she no less qualified than many other people who were chosen for that role.

People get chosen for fulfilling a role all the time. Biden himself was VP because folks felt there needed to be an old white guy to make moderates more comfortable voting for Obama. But that doesn’t have a naming convention with a negative stigma attached to it.

Language is important and using terms such as affirmative action hire gives the connotation that she simply isn’t qualified, not that she wasn’t the initial top choice. It’s language of white supremacy and it’s legacy sure as hell shouldn’t be adopted by us.

I get where you coming from but all this politics stuff is all distractions. I have too much respect for my time to be worried about all of that. I recognize Kamala as 1st female VP but that’s where it stops. I don’t know what Biden is up to nor do I really care to be honest

Because typically the the term affirmative action isn't associated with white people because they've always been privileged in America and when it comes to politics. She was just as qualified to be VP as other people, but you know the aspect that race plays in politics of why she wasn't going to be the first option. It's essentially the same reason why Obama picked a white man as his VP candidate as you know an all black President/Vice President tandem isn't winning Presidency in America regardless of who it is.

You're a liar if you don't believe that there was a sense of affirmation action and obligation that went into that Harris VP from black people and even people on this site. Some black people were literally saying that Biden should pick Harris as he "owed" it to us to pick a black woman because of his previous comments about us. Pull up the threads on this site and you'll see it yourself. Look up that letter that black celebrities sent Biden about why he should have picked Harris as VP.
