But in RZA's defense, he'd done that their entire careers. The only difference would be they either felt the prior stuff more, or didn't care since they were earlier in their careers.

Yea I should’ve clarified I know he’d been doing that since at least Wu-Tang Forever but I think what the issues was is be’d do it for a few songs not across an ENTIRE ALBUM. Thats why I said I think RZA might’ve overthought 8 Diagrams a bit.

Ghost been in the game technically longer than Nas. Helped executive produce 36 Chambers. He knows the business and was one of the ones who had issues with Jay when he was President of Def Jam so for him to sign to another artist label thats not RZA, i’m SURE the terms are favorable and everything will turn out great.

And Fashawn doesn’t have a bad word to say about Nas nor his time at Mass Appeal. He was on Twitter last year talking about bow he first met up with Nas and signed with Mass Appeal and it was all positive.

When did Ghost come in the game?

It wasn’t just the live instruments. RZA was having them record on a certain type of beat then he’d COMPLETELY switch it up so when they heard it the finished version they were like “THE fukk!?!”

RZA’s a genius but I think he might’ve overthought SOME of the production on 8 Diagrams. Like the OG version of The Heart Gently Weeps is MILES better than the album version. That shyt broke my fukking heart when I heard how stripped and soulless the album version was because i’d been bumping the leaked version for weeks beforehand

na. The real heart gently weeps is way better than the dead sample version. Ghosts version is the best but the sample demo was always just a demo and was always gon be rerecorded. shyt had zero rhythym at all and was just loops setup to get there verses. Nothing added to it, Was always a demo and just that.

People even confuse the 2 on yt, theres one labled the og with thousands of comments “this is so much better than album version” and … was the album version exactly. Seems most cant tell the difference but are repeating things theyve seen others say (not saying you did that, just people on yt/wu corp who obviously are confused which version is which)

But he did overproduce on that album. The og thug world and wolves are way better. Wolves i understand it was a sample thing. But thug world changing into unpredictable with that hook and guitar was disgusting. The beat change was dope on rzas but the guitar and dexter wiggles… trash. Also zero reason odbs tribute needed 8 hooks when the mcs literally rhyme in 2s off each other (rae/meth, mk/gza, deck/ugod, rza) and then add 2 minute chinese poem after it.

Besides that, starter and get out the way pa being mediocre, rest of the album was dope to me and imo rzas last real produced album. I saw someone else say the album was literally rzas giving a piece of all his old sounds, + some new stuff and i agree.

Still, 8d might be my 3rd fav wu album. It and the w spar for 3rd. The w retail is better but og 8d > retail. Og the w tho? Might be diff story. But thats the story of every wu album post forever from heavy mental to bpw to pretty toney etc

OG W? I never even heard that was a thing, do you know more about this?

I think if they ever open the vaults for Wu Tang, Nas and Mobb Deep I would stop checking for new rap music entirely. Throw in no dj/mixed/mastered mixtape Rae as well and I'm good. What else could I want.

Actually waiting for this big time, he actually still sounds good. What I do dislike however (talking to you Nas) is the "biiiiiiig announcement WOOOOOOOO brand new SINGLE for the ALBUM perhaps coming later this year awwwwwwwww yeah!!!!!"

lol i know these guys are old as fukk but so are longtime listeners who have had to adapt to modern rollouts and release schedules. You guys aint singles artists, papa. give us a one week announcement and the body of work

I just mean like songs made for record that ended being promo or released elsewhere.

Shaolin finger jab is prolly only song we know of that was straight not released and still hasnt released.

But songs like: what you in fo, the abduction, shaolin worldwide, respect mine, fast shadow, the w

Woulda made it even stronger imo.

And i feel ya bro. I got a 60 album wu tang folder with each alvum + all the shyt they dropped around it to make like a super album. Vesides like 20 other rappers, its all i really still bump from those days.

8 Diagrams is dope. Theres a few weird choices on there but overall it flows together nicely and its one of the better Clan albums. That was the last era where RZA was still consistently putting out beats, and he had some dope vibey stuff in the late 00s. After that he hasn't done much except experimental stuff and giving random beats out to FBZ, Nas etc.

This Ghost & Nas snippet doesn't sound great though.
