It only made sense this was gonna be the direction they went with next since it's based on historical events. It was either the isle of Iki which got invaded in the same invasion or time skip like 10 years to the second invasion... which they could go to mainland Japan for that one and explore the actual big battles that happened between the Japanese and Mongols and not skirmishes.
