Of course it didn't. How many albums can you say do that for you now like they did when they were released at least 10+ years ago?
That album was a damn event when it came out. But its timelessness or lack thereof is not derived by comparing it to its initial reaction. It still gets the attention necessary to be considered relevant. It's a hip-hop classic cemented. It has timeless tracks.
