I've never heard of him before. I'm going to go on amazon and see if I can find any books on him. Just going off the links posted here, he is a black man I should know. Props for the thread.

The Peoples' Friendship University of the USSR was renamed "Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University" in 1961, but it was later renamed "The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia" in the post-Soviet landscape in 1992.

In Kampala, Uganda, "Lumumba Hall" of Residence at Makerere University continues to carry his name.
"Lumumba" is a popular choice for children's names throughout Africa.

In 1964 Malcolm X declared Patrice Lumumba "the greatest black man who ever walked the African continent".

A Lumumba is a popular name for hot or cold long drink of chocolate with rum.

Lumumba named in Frank O'Hara's 1961 poem "For the Chinese New Year & for Bill Berkson"

Independence Day was celebrated on 30 June 30 in a ceremony attended by many dignitaries, including King Baudouin of the Belgians.

Baudouin's speech praised developments under colonialism, his reference to the "genius" of his great-granduncle Leopold II of Belgium, glossing over atrocities committed during the existence of the Congo Free State.
The King continued, "Don't compromise the future with hasty reforms, and don't replace the structures that Belgium hands over to you until you are sure you can do better... Don't be afraid to come to us. We will remain by your side, give you advice."

While President Kasa-Vubu thanked the King, Lumumba, who was not scheduled to speak, delivered an impromptu speech which reminded the audience that the independence of the Congo was not granted magnanimously by Belgium.

“For this independence of the Congo, even as it is celebrated today with Belgium, a friendly country with whom we deal as equal to equal, no Congolese worthy of the name will ever be able to forget that it was by fighting that it has been won, a day-to-day fight, an ardent and idealistic fight, a fight in which we were spared neither privation nor suffering, and for which we gave our strength and our blood. We are proud of this struggle, of tears, of fire, and of blood, to the depths of our being, for it was a noble and just struggle, and indispensable to put an end to the humiliating slavery which was imposed upon us by force.”

Most European journalists were shocked by the stridency of Lumumba's speech. The Belgians thereafter regarded him as an implacable political threat.

And the devils still utter that Africa and Haiti have failed because of its black leaders and fools continue to believe it. Africa will forever be under the west thumb as long as it has resources, and anyone of power who rises up against it will be killed instantly. Corruption in Africa is what is promoted by the west dont let them fool you. Belgium is a country that deserves to be on the SummerJam screen and should be required to pay reparations to all of their colonies. Not only were they mutilating people, when the country got its independence they purposely destroyed the infrastructure when they left.
