An Indian Muslim scholar himself articulates the problem, he says that before partition a lot of Muslims were worried about their futures, but their primary concern was that they wouldn't be in a position of power or influence anymore and would have to assimilate with the greater Hindu majority. That was their main concern and that's why they wanted Pakistan.
