George Zimmerman's estranged wife called Florida police at 2 p.m. Monday, saying he had assaulted her father and that he was threatening her, police have confirmed to Business Insider. Zimmerman had a gun at the time, police said.

Zimmerman is being held by police at the scene, police said. Authorities are looking into "possible domestic battery" on Sprucewood Road in Lake Mary, Fla., the Orlando Sentinel's Jeff Weiner tweeted.

The incident comes days after Zimmerman's wife Shellie filed for divorce following an explosive TV interview. He was also caught speeding in recent days for the second time since his acquittal.

Zimmerman was found not guilty in July of second-degree murder for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old.

Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell said Zimmerman's wife, Shellie Zimmerman, called police shortly after 2 p.m. Monday. Police arrived at Shellie Zimmerman parent's house on Sprucewood Road a short time later.

George Zimmerman allegedly pulled a knife on his wife after she discovered a firearm in the house they shared, according to ABC News. Zimmerman then pulled a gun on Shellie Zimmerman and her father after a verbal altercation.
