Not talking about the family....we are talking about one person in particular.

But in EVERY family there's always at LEAST one apple that falls far away from the tree.

you dont get 2 terms for being dumb\....dont matter who your father is..Bush Sr only did 1 term

Bush got two terms because

  • Saddam was captured almost a year before the election
  • John Kerry was an "Anybody But The Current Guy" candidate that couldn't promote or sell a vision (Similar to Mitt Romney)
  • Osama Bin Ladin released another mixtape a week before the elections
  • Fox News in general
None of these things measured the level of intelligence that was of George W. Bush.

Like my friend said, Bush wasn't stupid. He was stupid for a President (at least by the pre-Trump standard). Dude was a total failure in life who failed up regardless including college.

Bush ran the same playbook as every Republican President after Nixon. Charm the ignorant masses and let the "smart guys" run things. He was expecting to kick back and be an absentee President while Cheney ran the show. I only read the first 1/2 of that 9/11 commission report, but Cheney was literally running the government that day he was even challenged by a couple people who demanded to hear directly from Bush.

Let's not forget this genius got us into the Iraq quagmire and ended his reign with the largest recession in US history.

No he is NOT. But he played the the role of the Fool during his presidency so people would not suspect him of being so dastardly.

Above the fray.
OP

I've said this for years. That "Aww shucks" persona worked for him and his path in politics. The way he embraced being mocked for the image helped him also.
He had the best of both political worlds. Connected and tied to East Coast and Gulf Coast academic/business elites and charming image that connected him to mass white voters.

Him butchering words in public like "nuclear" and flubbing parts of speeches played into that persona.

"We won't get fooled again........YEAH!!"

The slow rehabilitation of George W. Bush began before Obama's second term.

Trump did more to repair Bush's image than Bush could have ever done on his own.

But he was a moron, a wealthy moron with the standard Republican platform and a back-pocket of incredibly wealthy neoconservative backers in case he needed to save face. Nothing about him showed more than average intelligence - no matter how you try to spin his decision-making or the general American consensus (which was largely fueled by media).

I see him no different than a DeSantis with a more esteemed background.

Both military, Ivy league-educated, can relate to a lower IQ demographic, and outwardly and demonstrably stupid. One thing you can say about his father, he wasn't stupid.
