New Jersey officially got a whole lot more funkier on March 17.

Music icon George Clinton, the founder of Parliament Funkadelic, was honored in Plainfield and Newark as part of an 80th birthday celebration. Five blocks of Plainfield Avenue in Plainfield was renamed “Parliament Funkadelic Way” by the city.

“We just turned this mother out,” quipped Clinton. The crowd spontaneously barked, chanted “We are here!” and sang the P-Funk classic, “Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)” as Clinton held up a “Parliament Funkadelic Way” street sign.

“George Clinton broke right here and he literally put Plainfield on the map as a result of his world fame,” said Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp. “This is a wonderful day for the city of Plainfield.”

A P-Funk mural will be erected near the train station, and the city's Cleveland Avenue arts district will also be renamed for Clinton and P-Funk.

This was cool to see. and well deserved. It was an all day celebration, starting with his elementary school honoring him,and then the street name ceremony by the city of New Jersey. His 80th BDay party celebration is also this weekend with Questlove,Nona Hendryx & Vernon Reid of Living Colour. George & the PFUNK is 1 of my favorite groups of all time!

Yep. That whole west coast sound was based in the Midwest especially Ohio. The Ohio Players, Zapp, Lakeside, Slave etc.

Didn't all these guys do mad drugs during the day?
He looks fresh as fukk:wow:
He was so zooted when they recorded Atomic Dog they played the rhythm track backwards in his headphones to keep him on beat. He liked how it sounded so he told him to keep it in. That's where that reversed snare comes from.

Facts. Those bands never get the credit Parliament got for whatever reason. I don't know who came first or who influenced who back then but that was a GOAT musical age I can only imagine the level of competition and musical greatness in them live shows :wow:
