Report: E3 2021 Physical Event Cancelled, 2022 and 2023 in Planning

The E3 2021 live physical event has been cancelled according to the Board of Los Angeles Convention and Tourism Development. ESA is still looking to hold a live event in 2022 and 2023.

Yeah E3 is THE games celebration like no other. I don’t understand people who supposedly like games hating on E3

E3 is a relic of the days of EGM and GameFan. The internet taking off and social media have effectively killed it. Megatons leak online well in advance and companies reach out to customers directly when they have updates and announcements. The market leader hasn't been involved with it for like 3 years now and it doesn't look like they'll ever come back. Pre-COVID the ESRB was at a loss at to what to do with the in person event. They was gonna turn it into an influencer event.

Basically Nintendo with their directs and Sony straight up pulling out of the event going forward killed it.

Console is only a portion of the industry. There’s so much more money being made and games being played outside of whatever sony is doing.

E3 is primarily a console gaming event. The overwhelming majority of what's presented there is focused on consoles. PC gaming gets like one event and its mostly an afterthought. Everyone knows when it comes to E3 and what's presented there Playstation is the marker leader.

Remember when Tencent held an E3 conference? Remember when Valve held an E3 conference for Steam? Remember Epic doing it for their store and their PC games on it? Remember the last who won E3 argument and people saying there were 4 contenders Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and PC?

I get it. You salty that Sony leads in this space. It is what it is. They're the leader. Get over it.
